Tronsmart MK908 - Cooling Fan with Variable Speed Mod - Made Easy.

I just want to share my modification to those who want to keep their android 1080p sticks simple and cool. With my mod, the cool air gets sucked in from the top, through the side exhaust, and out to the bottom vent. If the noise is too loud then you can turn it down with the variable control.

Heres are the pictures of what I did.

    1. Popped the top window, leave just enough room for the fan to sit on top. Break open the side to create an exhaust for air to escape to the bottom.

    2. Use mounting tape to mount the fan, use duct tape to hide remaining part of the window, and mount a "100 OHM Trimpot Variable Resistor 6mm" on top and stab its 3 legs through the window.

    3. Its Solder time! Solder the red wire from the fan, to the top/middle pin of the resistor. (it has three pins, one on top/middle, one on bottom/left, and one on bottom/right).

    4. Then solder another wire to the bottom/right pin of the resistor and solder the end of that wire to the 5v usb pin (in the picture). Finally take the black wire to soldier that to the usb ground. (optional) you can use an electrical tape to cover the wires.

    5. Tape the side exhaust, snap the cape back together and you're down. turn the control to the right for a slower speed, to the left for a faster speed. ENJOY!!!!

    Part list:
$1.00---100 OHM Trimpot Variable Resistor 6mm (make sure its 100 ohm, do not get 100k ohm)
    $3.40---Brushless DC Cooling Fan 5 Blade 5V 0.1A 25mm x25mmx10mm
$0.00---Soldering gun 15w with ground and some solder (or your choice)
$0.00---Soldering flux (optional, it makes solder sticks alot faster, your job easier)
$0.00---28 Gauge wire (or your choice)
    $0.00---Electrical tape
    $0.00---Mounting tape

Past Mod: (before the variable control)

very nice, I've been reading this forum after I bought my mk908 and ordered some mods that didn't arrive yet.
I've bought an even smaller fan, its 15x15x4mm ($20 on **** - search for "tiny fan")
I've also bought some copper heatsinks http://www.****.com/itm/200575255713...84.m1439.l2649

I'm interested in soldering the fan to the board, will I only need to soldier the black cord to the right usb ground on the board?

      thanks

Any ground will work, preferably the one I used because of the space between the 5V power+ and negative- wire is to prevent them from touching each other. However, your fan is rated @ 3.3voltage
so... 5v power might be a little too powerful.

I can only recommend the items I'm using or have tried, which is the 25mm fan so far. However, I would like to try 30mm 5v fans sometime in the future on another stick as I just noticed that they are rated @ 25db, which is 5db quieter than the 25mm 5v fans. 15mm fan is also interesting, I just think it is too expensive for a 60 dollar stick. Well, let me know it works for you.

what I meant to say is do you think there's a different place I can soldier my small fan to? You say its 3.3v if I soldier it to a 5v circut won't it fry the fan? or will it work fine? I'm a noob at mods sorry....
