Alternative option is to backup existing rom...but how?

The main chip on 8223A-SR is QC9377.

You can use any of the ROM compatible with 9377 chip.

let us know if everything still works after the firmware update. i'm still debating to give it a try since i can't find a way to backup the stock ROM

My answer was based on my own experience. I have got the same chip and running SVC6.
