My L runs about 180F as well.
I will have to try some Arctic Silver and I have some lovely black 28x28x10mm HS to try out .....

Keep us updated on how much it drops the temps.

Think you will find it a mix of Firmware and hardware with Hi temps

Idle temp here is about 10c too high as compared to some good 912 firmware/hardware me thinks
Idle here is about 55c/130F +/- should be closer to 40c/100F +/- at idle.

Heat sink here is on Solid, may try alloy plate and thermal pad underneath and some thicker Feet/Pads to get it up a little higher.

The temp is running in the high 180+ degree's Fahrenheit. Waiting for my Arctic silver to arrive. Except for the heat issues and lack of casting, this is an awesome box for the price. Of course, it is picky about what monitors it will work on using HDCP.

First observation, it loads the official Android TV OS, and not their original home screen. To be noted, I have been using this Mecool M8S Pro L as it came straight from the box, not mods at all. First thing I do, is install the Aptoid app for the Android TV OS, so I can install apps not available to the ATV version. Second thing I installed is "CPU Temp" app, and this box is still running high temp (assuming the readings are correct). It still maintains the Widevine Level 1 and the HDCP is still supported. There are a couple of new apps, that I am sure I will not use.

I will continue to test, but I am sure all is good.

So, a major change is going from their standard home screen to the ATV version home screen. Maybe they took the change straight from Magendanz's ports.

How to install apps on this box? I am trying to install Antutu benchmark, but fckin playstore can't find it. WTF?!?!?!

I was thinking normy62 was on the OEM ?

finally got it done thanks to you both
1) installed terminal emulator
2) typed reboot recovery
3) did a backup
4) installed the ota update that magendaz recommended
5) it rebooted ( and scared me when it said MBOX) but it booted back to the mecool home screen
took all of 15 minutes from start to finish
with regards to the freezing ( none so far after 30 minutes but the temparature in kodi is 78 degrees celsius... will try a small usb powered fan to blow on it first...as i dont want to tackle taking the box apart and applying good thermal glue
