General question about flashing new ROMs

I notice that it says in most docs that the first boot after flashing will be the longest blag blah but my question is, when you're flashing and most likely not connected to a TV, how do you know when it's safe to disconnect from the PC, or does everyone flash whilst connected to their TVs?

I do not flash connected to a tv. But Il tell you this from experience. Have patience. look at the clock. Wait 5-6 minutes before you unplug. You really want to be safe. wait 10. There is alot going on that you cant see. If you dont believe. Hook it to the tv and watch the reboots into recovery to finish the flash. Then another reboot to settle in.. It does take time. Good luck.

From my litle experience for me it is better to flash your stick connected to your TV, on TV you can watch progress after RK batch tool finish the job.
      When you see on TV
      Formating/data
      Formatting/cache
      Formatting mnt/sdcard
Rebooting and black screen on TV now is time to disconnect your stick from PC.

      Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I wonder why the flashing application can't be set to not auto-reboot at the end, that way you can disconnect it and connect it to a TV for the first boot. I would have thought that was safer.
