Hi all,

Some people are suggesting I might have a faulty V3 model since only the stock firmware works, when attempting all roms I used finess 1.4 and now I get no blue light, no HDMI siginal (Though the television detects the device on ).

But the biggest problem is that the device is no longer detected by USB (Tried multiple computers, and different usb cables with no joy)

I suspect the item is either faulty or bricked but I'm trying to rule out if its perm bricked or faulty.

One member suggested that I hold down the reset button and plug in usb via the OTG port and wait 15secs so it enters mask mode... Sadly I've tried this more times than I can count and nothing happens, I've tried various flashers and all the same.

Now I'm reading about shorting the NAND pins but this seems to be for the MK808 but some people talk about it being possible on the MK908. I can't seem to find the procedure for trying this method, nor even how to get the heatsink without completely forcing it off and likihood breaking all the components.

So, I'm looking for someone who is a genius who can help me diagnois the problem - sadly I would just RMA it back but I bought it off **** and the guy doesn't responsed and it doesn't look like Tronsmart directly deal with RMA's even though I have emailed them.

All help appericated, one frustrated android lover and hater.

I'm having the exact same problem too, is there a fix to get the computer to recognize it for a flash?

Thanks for the responses. I have done quite a bit of reading. I'm not a n00b, just a FreakTab n00b. Some feedback to the helpful responses.

iv had this happen a few times usually just trial and error and messing with the reset button brings it back its possible your reset button is flake

How can I tell if the reset button is flake? Is this just shorting pins 8/9 on the NAND chip, or something else? The reset button was working fine and still feels like it's working with a definitive click. Before it stopped responding at all (power up or USB flash mode) I could still use the reset button and get a response.

Yes, I'm holding the reset button and plugging in to the OTG port. It was working fine at first in two USB ports (one a powered hub, one direct to PC motherboard). Now it doesn't work in either of those, nor does it work at all on any PC. I've tried connecting to another desktop/tower using direct to board USB as well as a laptop. I've also tried 3 other USB cords and confirmed those all work fine with another USB device, so it's not the cord nor the USB ports on the computers as they are recognizing other devices fine. Nor do I get a blue light to show at all.

if your reset button isn't working then you may need to physically short pins 8 and 9(while connected to external power) on the nand flash to get it into mask rom mode
try the usual stuff another cable,another usb port (not one on the same hub)

I did that. I used the NAND chip info from thesawolf's heatsink mod thread (29F64G08CBABA) which matches mine and then found other info showing pins 8/9 (pin 1 is bottom left when held as if reading, from what I found). I use a conductive metal pin to stick between these to cross them and per another thread hold that in while plugging into the OTG to USB port on computer. You suggested using external power, which I tried as well. I also tried per the Proven Unbrick MK808 thread where it says to cross those pins while plugging into a USB (which also didn't work). I've tried this many many times.

Yes, several cables and several different ports, both on a PC with drivers installed and on a PC and a laptop without drivers installed. I've tried all these things about 50 times each. :-(

I'm a good reader, searcher, and have lots of persistence, but this isn't working so far for me. :-(

I Keep Trying; Now Wonder About Future Path

I've kept trying.....

I've tried all of the various things in these and other threads that I can find to resuscitate this device from the dead.

- Hold the reset button for 15+ seconds and plug OTG to USB on computer
- Hold reset button, plug in power, then OTG to USB
- Cross pins 8/9 on NAND plug OTG to USB
- Cross pins 8/9 on NAND plug in power, then OTG to USB
- used different USB ports (3 computers, 10 ports, nothing shows in USB Deview ever anymore)
- used different PSUs (I only have 3 rated at 2A including the LA-520 that came with it, which worked fine initially and still powers my other devices fine and checks on my voltmeter)
- used different USB cables (5+ including the one that came with it and all work with other devices)

I've done all these things about 25-50 times each without any new result. I still can't get this Tronsmart MK908 V3 to act like it's anything but a brick. I cannot seem to unbrick it, not even by trying to clear the NAND.

My reset button remains definitive in it's presses. If it's failed internally, is there a way I can easily check?

I checked my flash logs and they showed positive results at the end of each flash.

So far I haven't yet heard back from GB, but did send their support an email yesterday about my dilemma. Unsure what their usual response time is.

I'm still interested in these devices, even if I just wasted by $65 on this particular one. I'm looking for a solution for the other rooms in the house besides the media room. But I also see a lot of chatter about how the RK3188 might be useless for the 1080p jitter-free media function we all seem to want (I've been fairly impressed with the Popcorn Hour units which do work solidly and the WD Live TV Plus devices with WDLXTV community ROMs), and then I see others who say they work fine, especially with solid PSUs (which I've still not found a good link for other than Samsung Galaxy PSUs). I'd go back to the dual-core RK3066 devices if those are working solid, but can't fully tell if that's the case. I'd also be interested in something that works for sure, even if it's just a little more. I'm a hobbyist, but I'd also prefer to spend my time doing what I want rather than spending all my time hobbying, and my family just wants something that works when they want it to.

Anyhoos, still trying to figure it all out.... On to some more research....

I have been using 2 AIOS unit since 3 years now and never had problem playing my HD files. There are many HD player in market, the difference in such player is that usualy not working in android (some have android). I bought my T428 to use android mail, agenda and movie... but I have been realy deceive with it. Pivos Group, maker of AIOS and XIOS (Q4 to be release) have a great forum support and continuous developpement... If I speak of pivos is because I own some devices but if you look for HD media player take time to check there support page, we need more than simple firmware download but real support group. Now I know support group or forum are realy handy.
