For those who think that the 16GB model might have too little storage space. I'm using an adapter like this with a 64GB microSD card which I have formatted as internal storage.

Okay, I took the plunge and got one, it's something like the Mi Box but with more horsepower. Mi box is the moped, Shield is the Harley.

Anything BETTER is always worth it, the cheaper boxes can be fun and very frustrating,

As long as I still have a couple of hairs left on my head, I will keep buying these Chinese boxes.............. Sooo much fun with them...... The shield would be just toooo boring for me.

From previous comments you have made I thought you already pulled it all out, must be a few left

Shield is good and dare say boring, you are correct.

Boxes are the challenge and have more WTF moments

My really expensive boxes are collecting dust, my really, really bad Rockchip boxes are buried in the back yard (without any markers).

That is of course AFTER I have given boxes to all my friends and family.

I do like fiddling with the cheaper boxes, if it gets bricked, not much is lost. But the shield, I'm afraid to even try to root it lest all is lost.

Nvidia is definitely worth it if you are looking for a hassle-free box. Two major advantages are:
                1. No overheating.
                2. Has option to disable ipv6 for a stable wireless connection.

If the shield has the abilities that you need and it is within your budget then yes it's a simple no brainer.

You get consistent and good support direct from the manufacturer, which of course is vastly missing from the cheaper boxes.

But there is another good reason to use the Shield for at least those in areas of the world that have DVB-T2 as their OTA TV source.
The shield has support for the Hauppauge Wintv-Dual HD Triple Mode TV Tuner.

This allows you to additionally use the Shield as a TV streamer, where you can watch one programme whilst watching another, something that no other Android based box on the planet can achieve. It also supports cable.

The result being that in one small box you get a superior 4K media player/streamer, OTA TV (replacing your traditional dual tuner set top box), an IPTV streamer and Android mini PC/gaming console.

Nothing else on the planet in the Android sphere can do all of these things.

You have to go the Windows route to obtain the same functionality.

Yes. it definitely will be. You can use it for streaming a great amount of content. Although if you live in a region where most of the content is geo-restricted, you'll need a shield vpn. You can watch amazon prime, netflix, hulu, and tons of other platforms are also supported on shield. Have fun!
