Security for VORKE Z6
I will be giving a VORKE Z6 to a family member and they intend to install Amazon software on it which will allow them to view videos provided by Amazon. However, this also means they will be entering account information into a device from a vendor who has not undergone certification procedures. In fact, I would say it is very much a "buyer beware" situation because who knows what sort of man-in-the-middle sort of attacks are just waiting to happen from this, including a compromised account at Amazon, which I could then be responsible for. Including thousands of unwanted Amazon Prime merchandise being shipped all over the world without my knowledge.

Wow.... self help is beyond you I take it? Making everyone responsible for your choice seems kinda funny to me. But lots if choices of installing different firmware ect. Or better yet buy a device that actually stated it supports Amazon. Personal protection is always nothing to do with a supplier. But lots of reading not only on this site but lots of other places. Google is your friend. Many devices now mk902ii/Shield/Mk68 /Ugoos/neox5/minix5 (yes they still work lol) mk80 no it doesnt work lol.

hmm.. feeling paranoid?
Just enable two step verification on your account
*every time you buy stuff.. SMS with code.. fill code in on site..payed
You can at security layers by using
netguard firewall (incl blocking installed/system apps)
LBA security master ( English version on XDA )
Install a antivirus solution
Just some thoughts

Ok thank you gentlemen for giving me some ideas. I will instruct the person using the device to use two factor authentication, very good idea thank you sir.
Of course I will still have security concerns about the device, I don't know if there are custom firmwares for it and I wouldn't trust those either. I will be installing the device on a secure network and I will be notified if it tries to call home; I will have packet logging enabled and I will be able to tell every single thing it tries to transmit. I will publish full details here if I find it snooping.Last edited by danish; 03 December 2017, 02:36.

We are and have the same impressions of you and your comments regarding members. The security issues are items you can do a quick Google on and look more into on your own.
A few tin foil hat's never hurt either.
In any event like my father said when I was 15 you don't have to know anything about protection. You just have to know the reaction of not using any.

All I really want is some security pointers so I can avoid getting 0wn3d. Even legit companies like LG and Lenovo are putting hack spyware into their stuff, so I basically assume some random Chinese vendor is doing it. I want to find it and shut it down.
Make sure you have two-step verification . At least if someone actually hacked your box and got your Prime accnt log-in, they won't be able to log-in on another device b/c they won't have your text message from Amazon.
Use VPN if you are really on the edge .
You want a more secure Amazon Prime account ? Well buy a student accnt at flea bay for less than $3. That gets you an .edu e-mail address. Activate it with a very limited credit card.

Thank you, as someone else mentioned as well, we are going to use two factor authentication. But let me ask this: are there more general things to check?
Like when I install windows I do a security pas on it, privacy etc. I can check the OS but they might have this thing rootkitted. So I like the suggestion of running it on my lan an inspecting it on a network level.

Sure, I can use google but I was hoping some trained eye/experts could offer some tips based on real world experience. If I was searching for windows, someone might recommend CC Cleaner, or Kaspersky - right, legit suggestions coming from google, but I know better personally than to use those products. I mean just the fact alone that this thing ships rooted should be a red flag, no one in Unix security would advise that. It's a feature of the device of course, and I get it. But my research will probably find ways to secure it better. I did already get a couple helpful tips though, so thank you.
