    CX-919 What works for me

    So, it seems like there are a lot of questions about what works and how to get there. I use my CX-919 as a media device and have not tested any gaming or game pads yet. Here is what works for me and what I'm running. Please note that I live in the U.S. and use services from this country. Please also note that I have basically tested all apps I have accounts for with some of the free stuff thrown in to try and get some more content on the device. Although at some point I want to test my VPN account to try and get some UK TV (don't know what UK services exist on android for free, all I will get from the VPN is a UK IP address).

    Sorry, you will have to search this forum to find the links...

    Setup:
    HW: CX-919 2GB version
    ROM: Nexus SDK2 Multi-Window v1.2
    Kernel: Stock 4.2

    HW status:
    SD card Storage: Working
    USB: Working
    USB Etherent Working
    USB Remote/Keyboard/Pointing device: working
    USB MS LifeCam Studio: not working/recognized
    Wifi = acceptable
    BT = Not working (But it might be my headset)

    Basically, almost everything is working except my webcam (so no skype test has been done) and BT. For BT I have tried to pair a jawbone headset to my CX-919 but they won't connect. I'm not sure if it is the headset or not. I have a set of BT headphones arriving soon and will test them as soon as they come in.

    The Wifi is OK with this setup. I had some issues with streaming from SMB shares on Wifi so I plugged in the usb ethernet adapter provided at purchase (bought on amazon).

    I'm hoping that another kernel will speed up the Wifi and fix the BT if it is broken. I'm thinking of flashing the Finless 1.4 4.2.2 kernel.

    SW Status:
    Netflix = working great
    XBMC 12.2 Frodo (stock straight from the main XBMC download page) = mostly working
    Archos Media Player = mostly working
    HBO Go = working
    Max Go = mostly working (requires work-around to get past the "phone only" app crap)
    Showtime Anytime = Working (note, they update this app too much removing/adding back HDMI support)
    Cartoon Network Go = working, but not enough content
    TBS Go = working, but not enough content
    NFL Preseason Live = working

    I'm going to start this off stating that all of the apps above were tested with USB ethernet through a powerline adapter to my router. All of these apps need the usual minute or two to buffer up before the quality is good it is bearable.

    The main reason that I got this device for Netflix, XBMC and HBO Go; The NFL preseason app/subscription was something I got 2 days ago while I'm trying to find a way to stream GB Packers games as I now live out of the area. Netflix works great in my opinion. XBMC is decent compared to what i've seen in the past. 720P video's play fine after buffering up, 1080 video's are still too choppy for my taste. HBO Go works well enough for me. Max Go does work. But, it requires that you use an orientation app in persistent mode to prevent portrait mode video playback. The Nexus ROM comes with one so all I have to do is long press landscape before launching the app. Showtime anytime works right now, I think its up to v1.3 right now. v1.1 supported HDMI v1.2 didn't, the only reason that i'm putting this down is because they force check the version number at start up to force upgrades. The surprise app for me was NFL Preseason Live. I didn't hear good reviews of this app, but it works with my setup. There is a bit of chop, but no more than on my laptop in a browser.

    The way I see it we are almost there for media streamers. Even the wife uses it from time to time.

    I do want to test a few more things:
    WMC as a PVR backend for XBMC. This is still an alpha on the XBMC forums so I am not sure how well it will work on this device. I would like to get skype working with my lifecam studio, some form of UK TV streaming via my VPN account (haven't even started on this, so if anybody knows please share) and BT headphones. Once this is all working I'm done and would give one of these to my mom (already set up of course).

    I don't get much play time with this so updates will be slow, but I would like to keep things up to date in here. That way others like me can see what is working. This would have helped me before purchase. And for those on the fence this is not that much work to setup simply follow instructions provided with the ROM's/Kernels and flashing is easy (flash the Nexus ROM, then flash the kernel on top of your new ROM (at your own risk of course).

    Completely agree this is one the 2 best rom/kernel combinations right now unless you use Bluetooth which I do so I'm using hfw custom firmware by lewy and very happy with it so far. Wifi seems a little better and the rom has custom settings not found in the nexus rom.

      Have you tried upping the amount of time the Bluetooth searches for a device? I just managed to get my S400 device to link to my GT-3110 and Moga controller by changing this option in the advanced settings of the Bluetooth. I have also noticed though that the wifi drops a bar whilst a Bluetooth device is present. Looks like the signals might be clashing or summat.

        Hi! just curious about how did you get the nexus sdk v.1.2 up and running justinobwi ?
        Do you have to change some modules or something when you flash the rom? Because I tried flashing this rom like about 2 times and just got a blank screen so I switched to nexus sdk v.1 instead :/

        So please tell how you got this combo to work and if it's not too much to ask could you link to the rom you used as well?

          You only have to replace the kernel with one which works on our CX-919. You can get a working kernel here: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...007B-or-cx-919
