Thanks AWZ for the rom!

I messed up my box by installing supersu... So i was looking for rom... My box doesnt say "C" anywhere... So i flashed the non-c rom... Neither does it say AZW so i thought its mecool... Anyway, after flashing the box was slow as a snail... Everything would keep crashing... So obviously i flashed wrong stuff. Also i noted that ethernet wasn't showing up. Investigating down the line i came here on freaktab to find that mine is probably AZW & C because on my packing it said 100mbps lan. I flashed this rom & everything became normal.

for flashing i used tool version 2.0.8. didnt kno then tat theres a 2.0.9... anyway, i hit START on flash tool, kept the reset button pressed, powered ON & plugged into PC... First i tried without power & it would detect but fail @2%... Also, both usb ports behave the same for me but the one beside microSD behaved better.

Now some points i think should be integrated into next update...

Integrate a superuser management tool... I tried installing supersu which messed up my box in the 1st place.

Please remove the inbuilt file manager & pre-install es file manager cause the inbuilt one cant even read NAS/SAMBA drives.

The inbuilt kodi & cpuz saying 1280x720? So if i play a 1080p or 4k, the vdo would play natively at 720p & then be upscaled to hdmi output resolution? (4k in my case)

Amazon prime not running even in HD!

Youtube running @720p max!

Though it has 5g wifi, speed is too slow like 6mB/s down & 1.5mB/s up... Whereas mibox-3 can do 11mB/s down & 6mB/s up.

Probably due to this slow wifi, i cant run HD movies from my NAS thru vlc/archos.

I have a 4k tv... My mi-box-3 runs utube at 4k... Amazon runs at full hd... And that box just has a s905x-H... I dont understand what i gained by buying this octa core s912... Price is almost the same...

I found a very easy way to make youtube run @1080p or even be pushed upto 2k but @2k video becomes glitchy.

Method will make use of root (firmware is pre-rooted, so u dont have to do anything).

1. Install terminal emulator by jack pelevich from play store.
2. Run terminal & type...
su (hit enter)
wm density 240 (hit enter) (everything will become biiiig)
wm size 1920x1080 (hit enter) (everything will become perfect)

Now restart & enjoy

If u wanna experiment with 2k, then density is 320. Common densities are 160, 240, 320, 480.

I chose my density acc to my 42" 4k tv... Some other value might be more suitable for you, depending on yr tv

Another way to play YouTube in 1080P is using the YouTube Addon in Kodi. Firstable enable VideoPlayer InputStream (InputStream Adaptive) on My add-ons.
Setting - InputStream Adaptive as
1. Min. Bandwidth (Bits/s) set to 11000000.
2. Max Resolution of both general and secure decorder as 1080P
3. Enable Ignore Display Resolution
The General setting on YouTube Addon :
1. Set the Video Quality to Max. In my case that is 1080p Live/ 720p (HD)
MPEG-DASH Setting
1. Enable Use MPEG-DASH
2. Enable mpeg-dash proxy (newly required by Youtube addon Version 5.5.0)
Clear cache of Kodi App. Restart Kodi you should watch youtube video in 1080p.

The MPEG-DASH function is not working in the official youtube addon version 5.4.5 on recent days. I need to update the addon to version 5.5.0 to make MPEG-DASH working again.

This is only temporary measure. The final solution is to develop a new rom with device screen resolution in 1920 X 1080. The factory should do that when the machines are out of factory as this Mini M8S Pro is priced at mid level range.

i bought a Mini M8s pro-c for my tv 4k, from gearbest and have the compilation 707N0-C.... youtube, kodi, netflix is stuck in 720p, for other hand the max resolution is 4k 30hz, this should be 60hz in 4k, i dont know if the problem is from the rom or the hardware. i should buy other tv box, this suck

mini m8s pro-c max support 4k 30Hz, it's special for entry level market, while Mini m8s pro can support 4K 60Hz.

Okay, 4k 30hz only; how can i have 1080p at least in youtube, netflix and kodi? it is very pixelated to have 720p in a 4k TV

I do not need 4K. What I need is 1920 X 1080. Please set the device screen resolution to 1920 X 1080 (not 1280 X 720 in existing rom) same as other TV boxes with S912 chip. If I know the box can only play 720p in Youtube, I would not buy this box.

All those non branded boxes are like this... None outputs 4k... My mi-box-3 outputs true 4k & its interface is so much faster... But that runs official android-tv OS which is very restrictive... like no official amazon prime etc... So after setting 1920x1080 am kinda ok with this thing

you don't have true 1080p (1920x1080) the image is still pixelated, the reason is kodi resolution stuck in 720p, nice try, but not today.... is a rom problem; i can't flash to previous version, i dont have usb cable male to male, only microsd.

Just got this box & it makes a popping sound, very annoying specially if volume is loud.

Also after reading this forum maybe I shouldn't update it to latest firmware....


when will AZW update the firmware to fix the 720p issue?

Trust me you don't want more than 720p from -C version. Or you see that picture on screen after while. That is the reason why they changes from 1080p (706N0-C and before) to 720p (707N0-C) and decreases performance. -C version is the worst performance box of all S912 on market.
Both boxes buyed on Gearbest. It is not possible to buy there non-C 2/16GB version from some time. Maybe AZW manufacturer just laught to customers face by -C version, but I think it was very bad joke. No more AZW products.
