Freezing After External HDD plug in

    Hey guys

Hopefully someone can help me out

I use my h96 pro plus with Sc rom (V7) and all up to date

using a USB flash drive I have no problems plugging in and out of the drive
When I plus my 2TB seagate drive into the device it freezes. I then have to hard reset and then the drive works properly.

Not sure why (maybe a power thing)

Anybody experience a freezing when plugging in an external HDD (I think its a 2.5 inch drive)

    Thanks

You will have better success if you use external drives with their own power supply. Best plugged into a powered USB 3 multi hub that you can turn off each port.
        eg: https://www.gearbest.com/cables-conn...55.html?wid=81

** make sure it comes with a power supply, many don't include one.

Two, 2TB drives are better than a single 3-4TB drive. If your drive fails, (and they will) you will loose a lot of ...family pictures...
It does waste a few watts of electricity...but attachments will do that anyways.

I think ext3- ext4 is not available as a format for external drives with SCV7A,( I might be wrong) so do a quick read in this form.

P.S. Wrong format(ext3-4) or a corrupt drive will cause all sorts of grief. Too many drives will de-list the slowest drives( 3-4 max?)

And they will ? Is External HDD Failure Case very frequent in case of H96 ??

Don't think so. Same as always - if the drive is on all the time, than it will fail faster than if it's user less.
However if it start malfunction than 2 drives are better than 1, as it would be bad luck if both will fail at the same time.

Not specific to China Boxes. Hard drives only have a certain life span. If your China Box is on all the time, will your hard drive go into "Eco" mode or low power state?
Superceleron's SCV7A allows for low power state. Most modern hard drives can control their own green mode.

I had one hard drive that would not go into a low power state unless the China Box was turned off.
The option to have a USB hub that you can individually shut off ports is incredibly useful.

Remember to eject or unmount the drive before shutting off hub port.

As a note of interest with hard drives. Different drives and brands have different noise levels and speeds.

Tap Playstore or watch YouTube and listen to your hard drive spin-up (even if storage permissions were not given!)
I had an old refurb hard drive(lasted years)...from day one, it sounded like a skill-saw off in the distance.
