Just trying to flash new firmware using an microSD card but my box doesn't enter the recovery mode and just shows an 'android symbol and a cross in a red circle'. Any guidance on how to get it working in the recovery mode. Thanks in advance.

What I did was entering the recovery mode from inside of android.
I tried to update from microsd but was not possible. I put the zip file to a usb stick and boot it to recovery from the update app that is inside the android.
And after this I was able to update it -
