Problem scrolling through (horizontal) recent apps with ext. keyboard

I've noticed when you click on the recent apps button on my latest tv stick roms, that the apps show up in a horizontal list, which overlaps outside the screen, but which seems not to be scrollable with an external keyboard w. touchpad (left/right buttons on keyboard do not scroll list, neither does 2-finger scrolling function on the touchpad).
The older vertical recent apps list was scrollable with up/down arrows on ext keyboard.

Maybe I'm missing something. Does anybody have a quick solution for this?

Doesn't simulating a left/right swipe with the mouse do it? Remember Android is really for touchscreen devices, so keyboards don't always do what you want them to.

No. That works for most scrolling eg. between homescreen pages, but not for the recent apps (which seem to suspend in a level above the homescreen).
The problem is also that you cannot click anywhere on the list (to then scroll), without an app actually opening.
