The latest noob on the scene asking for help.

    Hi all.

I got my MK808B through the post today. When I plugged it in I was quite impressed, everything was working as it should - but I was made aware of the custom roms beforehand and I was looking forward to flash away.

Since then I must have flashed 30 odd roms, each one has a problem with the wifi - either it simply doesnt work, or it is very weak. Now I'm aware that this device has a weak wifi chip. However I was getting pretty much full signal when I first used this TV stick, so surely the problem was caused by flashing all these roms?

Like many all I'm really after is to use XBMC with all the bells and whistles, but I can't even download a web browser to download the apk files.

This is the item I purchased, and even though the listing says it's the standard MK808, it definitely has Bluetooth functionality.

At this stage I'm so frustrated, I feel like I'm gonna brick this stick because of all the different things I'm trying - surely something will cause it damage beyond repair.

So if anyone can point me towards what sounds like the official rom which had a good wifi signal I would really appreciate that.

    Thanks,

    Zak.

I wish I could make use of this information, but unfortunately I can't.

So I would need the rk903 kernel?

No. You must open this stick and check which exactly wifi chip is inside

Having opened the stick, this is what it looks like. I am now quite concerened having checked the 'clones' sticky thread on this forum as it looks like none of them. What I'm concered about most though is that it only has 1 wire where each youtube video or picture I've seen has shown two wires.

Could anyone shed some light on this please.

              Zak.

                Does this thread help?

I'm guessing that you didn't back-up the original stock ROM?

In which case, perhaps it is worth mailing the supplier to ask if they have a link to the original so that you can at least get your stick back to some kind of working order in the meantime.

                    It says:

                    AP6210
                    T0D4005
                    1318

The only ROM I can find for AP6210 is this:

But it seems to be for a different device.

On another note, I recall when I used this TV Stick on original ROM the boot screen said something along the lines of "R Player" or "Rock Player" - anyone know if this is any help at all?

Wow. My suggestion: You ordered mk808 but received mk808b, so you should back this item to seller.

As far as I can figure, there aren't any MK808Bs with the AP6210 for a wireless chip? I have received a MK808B from China, with an AP6210 - looks a lot like this one. See my thread about it here - with pictures:

Thanks for the information. I can see the thread does mot have many replies. What did you do, and are you facing the same issues as myself in regards to wifi etc?

Yeah, I emailed the seller over the weekend asking what firmware was used, and I havent had a response yet.

I emailed again requesting the MK808 as I ordered it specifically because of the large community that has that unit and **** has automatically opened a case against him.

To be honest I've just ordered a 10m cable that will take the router downstairs pretty much next to the TV Stick, but it's be nice to have the original TV stick and not a fake of some sort. I'll keep this thread updated with the outcome.

OK now the seller responded - he's trying to tell me the MK808b costs £20 more than the standard MK808.

Regarding the firmware he is saying it's available on MK808.com - but there's no word of which actual firmware it actually came with.

He actually expects me to pay for postage to return this TV stick to him and then he can refund me - when I specifically asked for a replacement.
