    Pipo S3 RileyROM 1.1

I discovered that 1.0 version of the RileyROM didn't work right, and I failed to get back to it.

I started from scratch with the same January 2013 firmware and hopefully have it working right, although I don't have the tablet to test on.

    This ROM is:

    Rooted
    Debloated
    Init.d Support
    Busybox Support
    Expanded Ext4 File System

    Here is the download link:

You S3 folks are awful quiet.

With over 400 views, you would think someone would provide some feedback.

I've had some requests for a 4.2.2 version for this tablet, but porting 4.2.2 is very tricky to these 3066 devices. Plus, I don't have an S3 to test on.

If I come up with anything, I'll certainly give you an update. Until then, we can only hope Pipo will update their firmware for this device.

The S3 came with the stock firmware from PiPo but there was an issue with the mini SD card not being read unless it was inserted after start-up. I flashed with the stock firmware upgrade from the PiPo site and got the card problem fixed but lost the ability to turn on the WiFi. I found the Rockchip Firmware (Roman) site and installed the rooted version of the firmware for the S3. Much better than the stock firmware, much cleaner, but still not able to turn on the WiFi. I have come across your site today and am downloading your firmware for the S3 to see if this firmware will fix, not being able to turn on the WiFi on the S3.

I have read that there are others with this problem and was hoping to find a rooted firmware that has incorporated the WiFi fix into the firmware. A fix has been provided by the XDA group but the technical skills required to perform the WiFi fix is beyond my capabilities at the moment. I just registered on this site today so will continue to read and check out any progress that is being made for future firmware upgades. Thanks.

Thanks for the update. I wasn't aware of the wifi problem. Let me know how my ROM works for you. If the problem persists...give me the link to the fix and I will attempt to implement it in an updated ROM. I still don't have an S3 to test on, though...so you can be my tester.

In reading the text file that was in the unzipped file, I found this: "This is only for the Pipo M5If you flash another device with this ROM there is a good chance you will brick your device.
You are on your OWN with this ROM. Don't blame anyone if you mess up and brick your device!". At the start of the text it does indicate that this Rom is for the S3. Just wanting to have this cleared up before I go an start something that ends up in a brick.

Once you confirm I am good to go with this version I will give it a go. Some of the stuff in the unzipped file is over my head. Like this: "I suggest erasing NAND for this ROM". Have done some research on NAND but don't know what it is. My problem is that I don't know enough about the Android operating system as I never got very much involved in the Linux culture which I think would help a lot when trying to understand Android.

If you can put up with my limited knowledge base, you can use my S3. It is kind of limited without any WiFi connection. It may be that the thing is just broken (hardware) and no amount of software fixes is going to change anything. Wifi did work when I got it and I haven't dropped it or anything like that so unless the WiFi hardware just failed, it should work given the right fix.

PS: Just noticed that you sent your reply on an M6 Pro. I just received that same model last week but haven't done much with it yet. Once I get the S3 issues sorted out, will be looking at what you suggest as a firmware upgrade for that device.

Just ignore that. You have the correct ROM.

I have completed an updated ROM for my M6 Pro...but I'm testing it before releasing it. This is for wifi only...taking out all of the 3G stuff. Stay tuned for it in a couple of days.

Mine is also the WiFi version (no 3G). Removing all the 3G stuff would make it work a bit better I would think. Meanwhile I will continue with trying to solve the WiFi "no turn on" issue on the S3.

I have attached the screenshot from trying to turn on the WiFi. After about 10 seconds of the first screenshot it goes back to the second screenshot. If you need another other screenshots from the S3, let me know and I can provide them. Thanks.

Riley ROM 1.1 installed on Pipo S3

Installed the Riley ROM 1.1 on the Pipo S3. Really easy to follow instructions were provided within the Zippped file. Followed the instructions and the installation went off without a hitch. It was very helpful to have all of the parameters already loaded on the Rom Flash Tool so there was no trying to figure out what needed to be done at that stage. The one thing that didn't change was that there is still no WiFi on this S3. It still will not turn on as shown with the screenshot in the previous post.

This is the address where a post was made concerning the fix to the WiFi issue on the S3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=38786178

Flashed old bricked S3 to this version - must say I am impressed, I get worse performance out of RK3188 tablets. Very smooth, even it's Android 4.1. A bit about that "debloation thing".. Basically I always remove apk installer (absolutely no use), ebook reader (meh), browser bookmarks and chrome instead of them I use dolphin. But that's just small bits, which are not so important.

So far no big game breaking bugs, except wifi always turn off when tablet is going to sleep, no mater what wifi policy. If that will help save some of the lousy batter then that's even for the better.

                      Good work, thanks!

arbalath, at least you have WiFi when you want to use it. During any of the previous firmware flashes that you did on the S3, was there any of those that made the WiFi not work at all (except for the one that bricked it)?

No, never. I had 5 S3 tablets, all of them had wifi working no matter the fw version.

That would kind of confirm that the issue with the S3 of not being able to "turn on the Wifi" is probably related to a hardware malfunction and not a firmware problem. I have had it about three weeks and only had WiFi use for the first 7 days until I changed the firmware.

Addendum: Just as I had it packed away today, I received a firmware from Pipo for the S3 that is not on their Webpage. I have installed the provided firmware and the WiFi turns on and the tablet connects to my wireless home system and the Internet. It would appear that the firmware that is provided on the Pipo Webpage works for most S3's but not for some and not for mine. I guess I will have to stick with this one version of Firmware for this model of the S3.

Please send me a link to that firmware and I will make a ROM from it.
