What do you thing of Xiaomi TV box international version?

I have used the Xiaomi TV box, it's Chinese version. One of my USA friend said he want to buy one international version. Did you guys use the international before? How is it?
Cause I saw a very nice price (only $50.99). So, if it's also good, I'll let my friend buy it.
    Thanks.

The International version comes with the maligned Android TV OS. It means lots of apps will be incompatible with the box. You cannot root it because the bootloader is not open/available from Xiaomi. For some reason it can not detect some of my USB gamepads. Netflix runs in FullHD thanks to license keys specific to each box. There is a lot of complaints regarding Netflix issues with older TVs (don't display image because TV lacks some DRM protocols), and even some new less known TV brands. In my Sony Bravia 2012 I don't have any issue. Few people say it can't play some YouTube videos. It is been said that a Oreo Android TV OS would be coming out soon, which is a good thing.

Chromecast isn't nearly as good as a real Google Chromecast, being Youtube and Netflix the only apps that really work. While streaming home videos it freezes a lot, turning it into a frustrating experience. The Miracast in my Bravia works way better than Mi Box Chromecast.

My opinion is that if you already have another means to watch Netflix in 1080p and Youtube, you shouldn't bother buying the International version.

Thank you. It's really helpful. Then I'll let my friend know.
