Tronsmart T 428 v MK809 III which one is better.

Hi there I am new to the world of mini TV /PC sticks and I come from a generation were there was only three TV channels in the UK right up until the early 80s. So I am ready to embrace this new tech. So my question is which one is better T428 or the MK809 III and which is the most up-to date stable rom's. Would be quite interested to here FInless Bobs input as I herd he was the man.when it comes to rom's and flashing. Or if indeed there are any other modals out there I should be looking at I would quite like one that would run stable with XBMC on it.

    Best Regards
    Dutch.

Neither. I have the T428 and love it, however, you live and learn and as you are new, you should not have to go through the same trials. The sticks seem great because they are tiny and fairly inexpensive, but you miss the hidden cost and frustrations. You have to buy or use an existing USB hub to make it useful, you then have to buy a usb Ethernet adapter as wifi is not the best route if you want to stream any kind of media, plus the dongle for an IR remote, so extra cost, especially when the OTG ports tend to be finicky and often become de-soldered from the main board. In the end you have an octopus of wires crammed behind the TV and extra costs you didn't consider. So I went from buying a Raspberry Pi, which is as "do-it-yourself" as you can get, then I moved to an iMito MX1 dual core when they first came out, onto the T428 and finally to the Minix Neo X7, and I have to say I wish they had the X7 at the beginning because it would have saved me the headache. The X7 is like the size of the Apple TV, perfect as media center. 3 USB ports, Built in Ethernet Jack, Dual-band wifi, built in headphone/microphone jacks, built-in fullsize SD card slot, built in IR receiver so no taking up a USB with a dongle and running Android 4.2.2. This is hands down the best buy for the money unless you want to spend a lot of time tinkering. You can still tinker a bit if you want as it is still flashable with 3rd party roms as well. Just my opinion with experience to back it up. My X7 is rock solid and I only use my T428 as a headless webserver anymore. It is more of a financial investment, but so worth it.

Hi mate i have been on night shift this week thats me just getting to read our reply I am looking at a number of options yours sounds good have you updated to the new stock firmware or did you go with a rom and if so how is it working and did you download the new 1080p Kernel how does that work and what version of XBMC would you recommend.
I do have a Apple TV 2 but I find the stock remote unresponsive unless it has a clear path of vision to the box and all the extras that you get with android make it look more appealing

I have Clockworkmod recovery installed along with Titanium backup so that I can quickly jump back and forth between roms. I primarily use Finless 1.5a based on the stock 004 rom but I did make a cwm for the 005 rom but found it to be no better overall than the 004 rom. I have also been messing around with strauzo's Nexus SDK2 rom so I could try out the multi-window feature, but I found that feature doesn't carry over well on non-touch devices, besides the fact that being so close to a stock rom feature wise, the Nexus rom is too vanilla for my taste.

I have not tried the 1080 kernel as I find it takes too much of a hit on resources, so I stick with 720 as I personally find the quality difference to be negligible for my needs and speed performance is more important to me.

As far as XBMC, I don't use it anymore as no matter what version you use, they are all pretty unstable and bloated as well as too resource hungry. If you must use it, I suggest the XAF custom build as it lets you use MX Player so it will go full screen while the official version always has the android bar visible. It is pre-installed with 1Channel, Icefilms, Project free tv and many other plugins. I stay away from nightlies as I prefer stability over bleeding edge features.

As I primarily use Netflix, Hulu, Primewire (formerly 1Channel) and Icefilms, I have installed 1Channel from Google Play along with both VideoMixPro and TV Portal as they take the place of XBMC for my purposes. And for local media stored on my NAS, I stream it using EX File Manger with MX Player.

I have had no slow downs or stutters in any video files or streams I use with the X7, and honestly, I have yet to find another android set top device that even comes close to the performance and build quality of the X7. Best device on the market.
