External keyboard issue

Just got one of these boxes. Got on old external USB style keyboard mouse jobby. It used to work fine on my old TV stick but on this box the numbers on the top row don't work and just close the app down instead. How can I fix this? Tried a few things but I'm stumped.

Right so I figured out the shortcut app was preventing my keyboard from working properly. I downloaded an app to remove system apps and then removed the shortcut app and now my keyboard works properly
