OK Randy, I now have Open VPN working thanks to the tun.ko module installed from droidvpn. Took a while as I had to get a vpn running on my phone and set up a hotspot to get out of China on the tablet so the module would load! So, .......how do I now upgrade the tablet without wiping everything off? I have used TWRP and CWM on the phone in the past (Samsung note) and it upgrades/changes ROM without me losing apps or data. I would hate to think I need to go through the process of reinstalling all my apps every time you bring something new out - and I suspect we are getting close to a 4.3 release which will probably be worth going for. Do I flash the cwm recovery module only then use that in the future, of can you simply flash the system module in the future for easy updates? looking forward to some advice soon, thanks!

Re: Pipo M9 Pro RileyROM 1.6
Unfortunately you will have to start over once more....sorry!!!
I use Titanium backup...its great...but it requires root.
What you can do is download an app called Android Assistant...which will at least copy all of your apps to a folder you can save to external SD. Then you can use the same app to restore them, but no data will be saved.
After you flash...then you can use Titanium from then on. It saves data and everything.
I don't recommend using CWM as your only back source because if you change ROMs it can corrupt a new ROM very easily because partitions will be mounted differently depending on if the system files grow on a new ROM. CWM is really intended for a quick restore to an earlier point of the same ROM...kind of like Windows Restore.Randy

Upgrades
Thanks Randy, I thought this would be the case. I have already got Titanium, so will be OK for one or two upgrades, but it is a pain in the neck having to load all apps again, so I will see if I can make the multiuser work with the build prop edit and deletion of provision.apk and see how it works. I may well wait until we get a 4.3 version to see the difference (if there ever will be one) One thing to note on the tun.ko module.......it keeps asking to reload - which of course is a pain as it can't download the module if the vpn is not on! seems to happen if I turn the tablet off? I will try android assistant as I always keep my data backup up in other places anyway!
