I see many tutorials for some amlogic boxes for porting Linux distros. Is this possible to do with this box ?

Yes your box can run Linux.

But I just saw one thread with images from 'balbes150' - basically no instructions that would really help.

If the image does not work and you have questions then post in the original posted area.This will just be a link to working known images and devices.

Not the first time I have tremendous difficulties finding pertinent information here.
