Report your wifi and ethernet speed in this thread please.

Minix X7 wifi signal is by far the best i seen on any device i have. But why is speed so slow on both wifi and ethernet?

I have tested this with Hobbit clip 96mb and this is my result.

Wifi full signal transfer speed over smb 2 minutes which give only 6.4Mbps.

Ethernet transfer speed over smb 56 seconds which give 13.7Mbps.

I don't get it why so slow? For comparison i used a usb>ethernet dongle and got 45Mbps, surley built in ethernet should be as fast?

Well, i guess nfs is faster but still why so slow with smb? Any stick is faster than this even with smb, right?

Your usb dongle a gigabit one? You may think that's poor but for 10/100 that isn't bad at all, certainly fine for 1080p content.
Just pulled this from a Google search on average bandwith requirements for streaming:

        1.0 - 2.3 Mbps for SD video
        2.3 - 4.5 Mbps for 720p video
        4.5 - 9.0 Mbps for HDX 1080p video
Over 9 Mbps for 3D HD movies

Not sure what your issue is? Sure you might think it's slow, but it shouldn't be causing any issue streaming content

I see your point. But i have quite a few movies that is 10-16Mbps. And i bought X7 för external wifi antenna and be able to stream hd content over wifi. My WDTV Live Gen 3 has also 10/100 spec and i get 30Mbps over wifi with worse signal and that is what i would expect from Minix X7 also.

Do you guys really think 8Mbps is good?

For WiFi it isn't bad but it's not great. I've never streamed using WiFi purely as it's no where near as good as being hardwired

I agree that wire is best ofcourse. I guess my WDTV got me spoiled. So that super good wifi signal i has on X7 is more or less useless. To bad.

But with that said ethernet is also bad and not enough for all my videos.

I did som testing and used a kernel for T428 and wifi was alot faster so i guess improvment from minix part can and need to be done.

Wifi full signal transfer speed over smb 62 seconds which give 11.8Mbps. Almost double of minix original wifi speed and almost same as minix wired ethernet.

I made some network testing with my X7 and stock rom 005.
And this is the result that I came up with. (transferring a 628MB movie)

                    Ethernet SMB: 6,1MB/s (48mbps)
                    Ethernet FTP: 4,9MB/s (39mbps)

                    WiFi SMB: 1,9MB/s (15mbps)
                    WiFi FTP: 3.4MB/s (27mbps)

                    5Ghz WiFi SMB: 2.05MB/s (16mbps)
                    5Ghz WiFi FTP: 3.65MB/s (29mbps)

I really can't complain over the numbers.
I even had a switch between the x7 and my router. Maybe it could have been a little bit faster ethernet without it.

                        Ethernet SMB: 45Mbit/s
                        5Ghz WiFi SMB: 19Mbit/s
