MK908 hardware dead after flashing STOCK rom?!

Been trying out various rom/kernel options on my 4 week old MK908 v.3
Decided today to actually try the stock rom update (update v. 0802).
Flash went OK, showed green in rockchip batch tool (success) "0 fail". When I tried to connect stick to TV, it wouldn't connect ("no signal" on my tv), the blue LED doesn't even light up with power.
Now I cannot even connect the stick to my PC to reflash. Tried different USB ports, different USB cables, different flash tools, even different laptop (athough I never had a problem flashing b4). Also uninstalled drivers and retried connect....no luck.
I read somewhere about dismantling the heatsink with a hairdryer to try hotwiring the Nand, but that sounds risky - and if it was the nand, wouldn't the blue LED at least come on when power is attached?
I think it must be a hw problem.

Any tips from anyone (apart from a sledgehammer)?
Anyone have success exchanging a unit with geekb.....com, after all it was after flashing the stock rom?

Hey! I just have the exact same problem: Tronsmart mk908, ordered from geekbuying. I flashed FinlessROM 1.5 but I got in a boot loop, so I decided to go back to the stock ROM. Downloaded Update_MK908_100j1101_6210.img and flashed it. After flashing it, the device booted up ONCE. Then I powered off the stick, and when I wanted to power it up again, nothing happened! The blue led doesn't light up and no signal from the mini-HDMI output. The stick seems to be dead... so weird. I already contacted geekbuying in email but no reactions yet.

So, just I join Desperado_22 in asking: ANYONE has ANY tips? I would even crack open the box and try short circuiting somewhere if it helps... but unfotunately I do not have the knowledge to figure it out by my own. Or at least I would send it back to geekbuying...

Not dead - Got it connected again!

Hey, my unit started working again this morning!
At first the blue LED came on "flickering" dimly and went off again by itself once or twice ... so I tried reconnecting to PC with different versions of the flash tool, till windows suddenly showed usb device detected and reinstalled drivers (which I had deinstalled trying to get it to connect) and reflashed another rom...strange, it (really) wasnt connecting before at all.

Lucky you! Mine is seems to be still dead... Blue led not lit. Trying a bunch of different USB cables, bot nothing seem to help.
Did you connected the unit by holding down the reset button?

          Working Rom

I got some problems with my 1 week device. When i got it, it runs ok but freeze a couple of times. I decided to flash with Finles rom 4.2.2 1.5 and 1.5a with no luck. The blue led didn´t even light up and it didn´t boot up also.. I tried to flash with stock rom (08.02) from official Tronsmart site with same result but this time the blue led light up but the device didn´t also start. The only rom that work great for me was Hoaby's 4.2.2 jjhmod v2.2 universal rom. I use 500 mhz kernel. I don´t know if my device is V3 but i just bought it 2 weeks ago from an Aliexpress Top Seller. It has Tronsmart logo (no honeybee).

AW: MK908 hardware dead after flashing STOCK rom?!

Afaik you can only tell if it is a v3 by opening the enclosure which is easily done. I also think there is an emergency mode like low level flash mode, but it seems to work differently. Look in finless 1.5 thread somewhere on the last few pages for more info.

I'm having very similar problems to the ones described above. Except in my case I didn't even get to flash the stock rom before it died on me. I'm currently going through the motions with geekbuying's support but the response cycles are slow. (I presume this is because of time zone differences.) If anyone can shed some light for me I'd be much obliged

I bought an mk908 and it was delivered at the weekend, powered it up and it worked great for about 20 mins. Then it started freezing and rebooting on me and each time it rebooted the uptime before a freeze got less and less. So I decided to reflash it with the updated stock rom as per the geekbuying blog. I downloaded everything and went to put it in flash mode while connecting it and nothing happened, my PC didn't notice the stick at all. I tried a couple of combinations of cables and PCs and still nothing. So I decided to just plug it back in to the TV and see if I could figure anything out. Nothing happened. No light from the led on the device and no signal to my TV.

I've tried going through these motions each day since then on the off chance I'm missing something, or in case it decides it wants to work again, but still no change.

Additionally I've also tried powering other devices from the supplied power supply and cable to check if it's a power issue. That works fine so I know the adapter and cable are good. I also plugged a usb hub into the usb port on the device while it was plugged in, and that's receiving power too. So there's definitely power getting into the device and it can power other usb devices. But still no sign of life from it and not even the little led coming on.

I'm reluctant to try open it up or anything as this will affect my right to a return with geekbuying on what is a brand new device that started failing out of the box. So is there anything else I should be doing/checking to help sort this out or to help the support staff at geekbuying to resolve this quicker?

              Thanks

stock adapters are shit don't use them for anything -door stop they can't supply enough power to the stick while they are fine to use for a phone charger they aren't good enough to power the stick I would have thought geek-buying would start shipping better adapters after all the flak they have gotten
                current devices(rockchip sucks)
Hardkernel ODROID C1 running android kitkat
Hardkernel ODROID XU3-L Running Linux/openelec (primary media server)

A Real 2 amp charger will help.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried a few different power supplies and still nothing's happening. Likewise when I connect it to a pc it still doesn't show in the device manager (I've tried 3 different machines and 3 different versions of windows). I'm going to see if I can send it back for repair or replacement at this stage. Thanks again

Same thing on mine as well. Got it to wake up once, but it died again minutes later. Now no reaction to anything, via otg or power usb, no blue LED, different PCs and different usb ports tried..... just a very quiet noise from stick when you connect to power (as if it had a micro fan inside). Power supply is original, but stick will not even connect to pc via otg/reset button anymore anyway.
TRYING to get a repair/replacement... but so far only being given tips on how to get it going again....all of which I have tried loads of times.
