More oddities with recent ATV updates

Seems like the latest Movies Anywhere for ATV is built around android tablet. It does a FC when started.

Also for some odd reason ATV play store is mixing phone apps in as updates to ATV apps. So when you update ESPN, FX Now, FOX Now, and others, you end up with tablet versions.

I assume he reason is because of another Google update with play store and play services.

I corrected some odd things with the google updates, by changing ATV into a Tablet/ATV hybrid. My ATV now has the ability to sync contacts, calender, people, and other Google stuffs in the account.

One interesting fix that I did not expect was, live channels now syncs play store without FC when adding more live content. I always was able to sync 120 or more live channels from Pluto, so I have no idea if it will help others who are limited to just 50.

Also HBO Go and VUDU now play audio through the ads... yes, DTS audio to boot! So, be sure to use the AVR remote, else you may blast your ears off.

will spend more time later in making ATV more tablet compatible, as it seems Dynamite and location services are now being slowly integrated into Smart TV apps. Looks like Google wants to track you to make sure you are where you are for its ad services. Thus locking in ads to your region.

    Hi

Have you experienced the ATV Store when using 320DPI and even 240DPI that app banners inside the store looks low quality?
Seems it happens on lots of different ATV devices.
I read Google is compressing the app icons, banners too much and with ATV where they are bigger, it is more noticeable.
Maybe it's not fixable by a software change.

Also the Youtube ATV app freezes constantly.
The last update was over a month ago and just 1 star ratings in the Play Store.
Google tries to promote ATV but can't even fix their own apps.

My ATV play store looks fine at default of 320dpi and maximum screen width of 740dpi. What up with banners? Maybe my ad block is killing them. Don't see em so I figured that's normal not to see em.

The only issue with 340DPI is with Chrome. Seems that low res image look pixelated because they are zoomed in and fill the TV screen.

You can adjust the build.prop to have a 280dpi setting, and change the maximum screen width to 700 in developer options, and go into access ability settings menu and set screen size to small. It should force most of the images to proper size, yet give more surface area to add additional images if app Is able to.

Yes the newer YouTube does freeze, but I use a wee older version, just before the introduction side menu of quick categories.

I don't see it as a limitation, as everything seems to work as expected. I don't use Youtube much at all, and prefer to use tube mate, if I need to watch video links to YouTube.

Right now it seems that ATV BBC America and ATV AMC suck since last update. I swear the video is 720 up converted to 1080 by the streaming server. All other streaming apps process at 1080 native from the server or better.

I have been switching between Lean back launcher and stock launcher with TV launcher for ATV apps.

Most of the phone/tablet apps are slowly becoming ATV compliant, since it is more cost effective. Since January I have replaced 5 phone apps to complaint versions that have been recently introduced.

I am still trying to figure out if there is any real benefit in L1 DRM. HBO Go, and Movies Anywhere don't care about L1 since you are a subscriber, many may follow on the path of more device compatability.

HDX is no better than HDX, just video compression standards for HDX is locked to best playback under slower bit rates. I have pretty good bandwidth so I am able to get the best playback out of HDX content, though I pay the price in data usage. HD can produce a great picture but the compression, or the lack of it requires data stream to be high bit rate and more constant.

Sure there is more bits in HDX but do we really see it as an Improvement. Nope just a way to compensate for data compression. Makes the video compression look lossless.

If you have 100+ inch TV, having HDX will be like what I see with true 1080p content on my 1080p TV. Just it took 10 years for content to get 1080p since its introduction. Yes, most of the stuff in the last 10 years was just 720p up converted. Though a real good up conversion can look good on most TV screens below 65".

Its all about ISF certified or calibrated tv displays. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE PROPER BLACK LEVELS WITH GREY SCALE, ALL YOUR WONDERFUL COLOR REPRODUCTION WILL BE ALL FOR NIL.

As of recent, I had two Play services updates, within 5 days. For some odd reason, I had to remove all updates, reboot and apply the latest Google play services. Because of the issues with corruption, my play store and some apps needed a play services update to function. Once I corrected, play store reset it's settings and applied updates to the apps I had not manually updated.

I decided to test each app that had been automatically updated, only My5 was able to update without breaking, from the small list of phone apps. I looked at the log cat and found the issue with firebase module being broken is now no longer.

Seems like a window generation error is caused when unpacking a lib file for the updated STV Player. SBS On Demand seems to have Web view logging issues still, possibly firebase could be the root cause.

YouTube and YouTube TV, still have issues with libcoat.so
