MOD: TABLET ATV 7.1.2 (No lean back krappa)

TABLET ATV can be had without need of custom firmware. Works on all boxes. All the details below do not require tweaks, hacks or modules, just some will require missing system components to be side loaded. All of which can be found on APKMirror.com

Will enable Daydream and allow Backdrop to play as a screen saver.
Will keep all remote functions intact.
Will allow installation of all Leanback & Phone/Tablet apps without loss of compatibility.
Will play live channels.
Will unlock some extra features not given in factory firwares.
Will allow 3rd party launchers.
Will keep Phone play store and play services intact.
Will make Play Store properly Certified.
Will allow Location Services to be fully functional in all apps.
Will allow Ti Backup to run properly
Will not effect installing OTA packages for updates and upgrades.
Will make your box think it's a TV using its own firmware and phone/tablet firmware.

Google is removed... no leanback launcher, so you must use TV Launcher to run ATV apps. You can install Google and all the other apps if needed from APKMirror.

Basically this is a cross-breed Tablet/ATV firmware mod, so ATV cannot mess with phone apps, and visa-versa.

Best option, must flash any factory stock firmware for your box, and must be made after 02/2018.

Replace your system/etc/permissions/handheld_core_hardware.xml with my tablet version, attached in this post.

If you have ATV already, then forget about doing this mod.

Here is a bonus build.prop for S912 q201 boxes with 9337 wifi chips... will not do much as for spoofing other devices, but it does make the box look better when using tools to Identify the box. The big thing this has Is pure tweaks to allow the best out of your box without breaking things.

OK, I updated my post, for some reason editing is wonky for me on this site. Seems like it's been always like this since my first post.

had corrected some typo's and replaced my original permissions file with a correct one. I used a test file that was to be kept for upgrading to full leanback. Unfortunately it kills play store and causes compatibility issues with phone apps.

to revert back to stock, just rename the modded permissions file's extension to txt or what ever to hide the xml extension. Then remove the txt or what ever extension of your original and reboot. No harm, no brick, no foul.

Sorry guys, I messed up with a bit of editing over the network. So I had some issues with how my permissions file format and entries were saved or not saved. That's all cleared up, and now, after a bit of testing, with the most difficult apps I can find, I can say this wee mod runs as if you have ATV without all the annoyances.

This mod may work on Lollypop and Marshmallow, but i cannot test to make sure.

Here are some resources to install a customised ATV setup with my mod. Some of the packages may be installed with open gapps with twrp, but may need a touch pad interface. If touch pad does not work with current romantic, you may need to use my permissions mod to allow touch pad and game control functions.

After testing my mod to factory stock for the last 6 days, I can say it is very close to being ATV, without all the Google add ons, like chromecast, voice search, Google, and translate. Also I get less error reports in log cat than with an any custom ATV.

So I am happy to say, it's another mod that I have done that should have been done by other modders long ago. Would have saved a lot of troubles with cross compatibility and limitations with ATV.

The only drawback is system settings fc can only be setup through the white screen before the mod is in effect with the permissions file set. To make an adjustment, a reversion to original permissions file before rebooting is needed. All settings done through the black menus are fully functional without need to revert to original permissions. So make sure you completely setup your system settings the way you want them, before making the mod. There has not been any reason for me to revert temporarily to make any changes in the white menu system settings, as of yet. So this issue is considered to be any trouble.
