Access Win 10 from ES File Explorer

I'm not certain that this is the correct forum for this question but I'll ask....

I have an android media server (X96) and have installed ES File Explorer so that I can access the media server from my PC in much the same way that I can access another computer on my network. (to move files back and forth)

I am able to access the media server using an FTP program (Filezilla) and I can see and manage all the files on the media server itself. However, I have an external HDD attached to the media server and can't see it from my Win 10 PC.

Does anyone know how I can make the external HDD visible to the Win 10 PC?

    Hello,

To see the HDD from Windows 10 you can try it in first with the IP Address and then Attach Network Storage with that IP Adress.
Second, you need to change the smb.conf that Windows can see it @all.

      neomode,

Thank you for your reply but sorry I don't understand completely.

-I previously established a network storage link in File Explorer but I get the attached error message when it is accessed. (The IP address is correct in the link)
-When this didn't work, I connected to the Media Server using the same IP address and the FTP - Filezilla. Using this method, I can see and mange the internal HDD in the media server (from my PC) but cannot see or manage the external HDD attached to the media server. I assume that there is another setting that I must change to make this work but I can't seem to find one.
-You say "you need to change the smb.conf that Windows can see it @all". This is what I don't understand. I googled "smb.conf" and it seems to be a Samba configuration file in Linix. I'm not using Samba and my PC is a Windows 10 machine. Am I missing something?

      Edit....
Sorry, I made a mistake. The attached network storage link works but even there I can't see the external HDD attached to the Android server.
I'd like to delete the attachment to this post but I can't see how to do it.
      Sorry for the confusion

It's a windows 10 issue. Either use ftp only or dual boot to windows 7. It's a known issue with Windows 10 and older SMB services. You can disable a feature in Windows 10 but it will make it less secure for SMB.

          - I also have a Win 7 computer on my network so I set up a network storage link and get the same result - i.e. I can access the internal HDD on the media player but can't see the external HDD.
          - I have exactly the same problem when I use the FTP program.

I wonder if your user name and password don't match, to the share. If the share is not attached to the account that is part of the connection, then it won't be seen, but the connection will still be intact.

I don't have a username and password established on my computer. I sign in anonymously.

As far as I know, there is nothing in the Android box that requires me to attach the external HDD to an account. When I use ES File Explorer on the Android box (OTT X96), I can see and manage both the internal and external HDDs.

Sorry, none of my media shares are allowed to be open, even if I wanted them to be. Something is odd, as when you create a share, there must be some forms of connection rule between client and host.

maybe OTT boxes have something that allows open shares.

have you got all the root access settings setup properly? the fact that you are using an anonymosftp connection maybe has something to do with why you cant locate your HDD I connect all my Android boxes to a ftp client and have no problem connecting up to my hard drives usb sticks or internal storage try using this FTP server on your box and you can set the path to your hard drive within the app but setup a User/Pass for your connection. FTP Server

I installed FTP Server (Bannana Studio) and set up a path to my external HDD and it works perfectly.

                    It's simple and it's easy!

Thank you very much for the help!!!!
