Try follow the guide at the xbmc wiki, if you just follow the steps exactly it's pretty easy.
The only thing you need to begin with is a working linux system.

I think it would be difficult to do in windows, but I'm no expert, there might be a way to do it.
The xbmc docs only mention how to do it in linux.

i will try cygwin or something like that. last resort is run a linux vm on my server, although that might be pretty resource consuming...

Shouldn't be .exe, probably some download manager from sendspace. Don't download or use that.

You probably clicked the "wrong" download button, since there are so much of them.
The correct one says "Click here to start download from sendspace"

Having received my R-42 today, I decided to try a number of XBMC editions and releases and found that xbmcGothamAlpha8_LibMediaHackEdition worked rather well on the whole.

                  Very impressed so far.

Do you use it with Dolby/DTS Passthrough?

                            Hey stafsrom.
I tested the Gotham Alpha 8 libmedia edition on Finless 1.6, MINIX 1.7b mini and lewys 2.0.4 rom. With analog audio it's really perfect!! 1080p lan streaming playback is absolutely smooth now!!

But passthrough works quite strange: I change android settings to hdmi passthrough and then switched xbmc audio to hdmi out too. First movie streams from my nas drive without any problem. Ok, stopped, tried another movie. Xbmc crashes. I started again, can play a new movie and when i stop and try to play another movie, the same happens again.
Xbmc crashes. Everytime i want to watch another movie xbmc must crash and then i can play only one movie ;-) This happens with either ac3 or dts audio. All streams with stereo audio have no problems. So it seems like there is some reset on some audio things missing. This only happens, when the box is connected to a surround receiver. If i connect hdmi direct to my hdmi monitor without decoding ability, i can hear some noise and play as many movies i want. So something with the communication between the receiver and the hdmi audio port is wrong.
When i play a movie and then manually restart xbmc, it crashes direct when i press the play button. So i tried to exit xbmc, then switched the android audio output settings, restarted xbmc, pressed the play button and it worked, just for one movie.
Any idea, can you change something in the libmedia.so? So how can i help to figure it out, how does debugging work? Does it work in a Ubuntu VM?

With stock or mx player passthrough works perfect.

                            I'm on a CX-921 box ( EXOON POWER PRO ) My kernel is patched to 1080p, 1800, 720, 600.

Keep on you work, thanks to the FreakTab community!

                              Stable Version

Do you have this mod available for one of the monthly builds, or does anyone recommend a certain nightly build that is the most stable?

go for 6.10., they screwed mediacodec in the later builds.
