How to root a Gbox MX2 Clone (g18ref)?

    Just got a G-Box MX2 clone with g18ref board.

Very impressed with this piece of kit - amazingly fast as well (I also have an Minix X7).

Can anyone tell me how to root it?

I want to make a Titanium Backup of what apps I have so far - even install CWM if possible (to make a nand backup) before I flash the Matricom firmware from Benny.

    Cheers

If you have a male-to-male USB cable you can connect it to the OTG USB which is the single USB slot in the back, not one of the three on the side. And you need to have installed the ADB drivers on your pc. Then you can push the superuser.apk to the system. Try to google for more precise solution...

LOL, just read your post again

Boot into CWM, make a backup. As far as I know, it does not require root to boot into CWM! At least try it.

And if you have the generic image done, I'd be interested of it, too.

You should have tried to boot to CWM at first!!!!
Now remains only to boot with the special SDcard.

Install cpuz, in the section system see if it says root access yes. If yes install super user from play store. I have a similar clone and it cames with superuser bináry in the system.

Bootloaders are not locked, no need to install CWM, just boot to CWM with the sdcard (that contains the cwm images) by inserting the power cable toothpick in the AV hole - method.

Anyone figure out how to modify the CWM sdcard to work on Matricom 1.1.6 FW to make backups and restores yet.

This does not work - have tried it. Binary is missing & SU will not run without it.

Does anyone know how to easily fix this?

                      Thanks

I tried using the CWM SDcard with Matricom 1.1.6 FW. It loads CWM, can move around the various menu items, Will let you delete data, dalvic cache etc, able to make backup, but will not let you restore the backup for some reason. Locks up box and some times box needs to be restored with 1.1.5+ restore sdcard from BenniBenassi before reinstalling Matricom 1.1.6 FM

I have tried this on both Matricom & Clone Boxes using Matricom 1.1.6 FM. Wish I understood more about how CWM writes image to the box. I have found very little info on making a SDcard CWM on the web. Any one care to school me in this or point me to info that might help figure this out?.
