    My Tronsmart Prometheus External Antenna Mod!

    I improved my signal quality by 40% doing this mod!
    I could not find any resources on the internet on where I should solder on the antenna connector, so I went with logic,volt meter,soldering iron and a leap of faith!

    It worked like a charm! Now that's what I call "Pimp My Prometheus!"

    Do this at your own risk!!

    Looks good mate, thanks for sharing! I'm also interested in the fan mod you have going on there. Where did you connect it?

      Thanks! For the fan I simply piggy backed off the DC power jack. The transformer that runs the Prometheus is 12v, and the fan happens to be the same voltage. It's true the fan will stay on 24/7 even with the device off but really, it's a media box intended to be left on anyways. I recommend a dual ball bearing fan for long life. Avoid sleeve bearing fans, they are just junk.

        That's great. Thanks for the info.

        I have a few more questions that I would like answered before I go ahead and start drilling holes in my Prometheus;

        Did you add holes on the bottom/side for air intake?

        If so, do you find there is a lot of dust trapped inside the unit?

        Did you notice a considerable temperature drop as a result of the fan?

        Thanks in advance.

            I didn't drill any holes on the bottom side of the unit. I cut a square hole in the roof of the Prometheus to allow for the tall heat sink to sit flush to the roof line. The fan is blowing directly onto the raised heat sink. Air manages to blow out through the usb ports ect. It would not hurt though if you did drill holes on the bottom. (Just be sure the PCB isn't installed while drilling, lol.) Once again this is optional if you choose to do it. I Have the fan sitting in a diamond shape for the mounting holes. There simply was not enough plastic to drill holes positioning the fan square.

            As far as dust goes, not much was going in. The fan blades picked up some. It doesn't impact the operation of the Prometheus.

            Temperature was greatly dropped adding the fan. The Prometheus is running very cool modified this way.

            I managed to play around with a GT Max Midnight 2 box today. That is an awesome box running the same CPU as the Prometheus! It has a heat sink already, however that unit is crying out for a fan and an antenna mod! Of course it isn't my unit. It's going to be installed in a dental office for the soul purpose of XBMC, displaying movies on 15 monitors!

                Not an antenna mod, but showing that not all Prometheus are the same. Mine has a usb module on the underside, without a pcb antenna. It has a wire to a trace antenna at the end.

                You could remove the entire thing and add an external usb wifi device instead too.
