Google Play Patcher for PMID701 - TEST 2

OK I think we may have it right this time thanks to Petrus' greak work on the APK.

He went through 2 interations today with me testing and I am pretty confident this time it will work for you guys.

This kit will install the basic up to date Google Play Market files (V3.5.15) and then optionally allows you to choose additional google add-on apps to inject.

WARNING... since you do not have a ROM yet, the add on apps DO go into /system for performance on boot time! So be aware that if a add on app doesnt work you could be in a force close loop! But anyone wanting to test we would appreceate it!

Requirement is that you have Superuser.apk installed! Without it, for sure it will not work.

    Instructions:
    1) Unzip the kit
    2) Put the package.zip on the root of your SDcard. Physical or internal should work!
    3) Install Appinjector.apk
    4) Run app injector. You should get the superuser PROMPT at that point.
    5) Select your choices. Of course at least select the first choice for Gplay.

We hope this works for you all this time.

        Still working on it

Well still not working for me as is. I am not sure I have SU installed right. I am trying to keep things simple so I just extracted superuser.apk and su to the SD card, but all I am able to do easily at this point is install the superuser.apk with the stock file explorer and I am thinking that is not quite enough. Am I missing an easy option of installing it? when I run the App Injector it does come up and lets me select things and hit the install selected applications button. all I get is a quick blink and nothing seems to be installed.

OK got around the superuser problem

Since I used it earlier to get a set of drivers that would actually work for debugging I had SuperOneClick 2.3.3.0 loaded on my system anyway and that I figured would be a simple easily obtainable thing for people to be able to use, plus it insures they have something that works for ADB later on if we need it.
However even though it is now definitly getting SU access, it still does not seem to install the Gplay app, at least not so I can use it. Gonna go looking around over ADB to see if it looks to be in there

Doesn't GooglePlay.apk need to be manually installed in order to produce a Vending.apk into /system/app? I executed the script manually (opened it up to see what it was doing and did the operations manually) and it doesnt seem to have changed anything as far as my market access goes. I do not get a bunch of "your device is not compatible" errors in market ( I never did) but I did notice some that i know ARE compatible, are not coming up in a search. Google Voice Search/Recognition for instance. I was finally able to install it through an alternate method, but most VoiceSearch.apk found on the misc web would not work, and it was not showing on the market search.

              Still nothing there

Yep I cant find vending.apk, com.android.vending-2.apk, com.google.android.gm-2.apk in either /system/app or /data/app going through ADB either. It definitly shows it is getting SU rights, just doesnt seem to move it in. There is a very quick flash that looks like it might be a progress bar, but it is gone so fast you cant tell what it said.

The new Google Play no longer has a Vending.apk. That is from the old Market 3.4.4 or below.

The only files needed now for Google Play are:

                GoogleBackupTransport.apk
                GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
                GoogleFeedback.apk
                GooglePlayStore.apk
                GoogleServicesFramework.apk
                Talk.apk

Now the other important thing is that you have this in /system/framework:
                com.google.android.maps.jar

When I do a ROM if that is not there I add it to the ROM. Since you guys don't have a ROM yet I do not know if that is there.

3 out of 7 aint the best

only ones I see installed in /system/apps, /data/apps, and /system/framework are

                  GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
                  GoogleServicesFramework.apk
                  com.google.android.maps.jar

This is after you ran the patcher?

OK so the AppInject found the package.zip this time correct? You checked the box and ran it to inject Google Play?

OK the other issue with you guys is /system is not Read/Write by default.

So you need to open root Explorer, open the system folder and at the top click the "mount as RW" button. Then while leaving root explorer open, hit the home button. Not run app injector. It now should inject the files I listed into /system/app.

Another way is to edit sun4i.rc and this line:

                        mount ext4 /dev/block/nandc /system ro remount
mount rootfs rootfs / ro remount

                        and change them to this
                        mount ext4 /dev/block/nandc /system rw remount
mount rootfs rootfs / rw remount

Then do a "reset" (not a power off) and when it comes up /system should be RW and App injector can now insert the files.

                          It is working now

OK after moving root explorer over and installing and making the changes with the text editor and saving the changes I did a power off power on reboot (I know you said not to do it that way but it worked just fine for me before on my other tablet) and it came up and was still in R/W. At that point I ran the App injector and this time it seems to have installed just fine. So far all I have installed through that has been Google play and Gmail. I did set up my gmail account and downloaded terminal emulator which installed and got superuser rights just fine.
Hmm I would assume it would be possible to have the app injector make the permissions changes needed to make it work, even if done temporarily for that boot cycle. The procedure is starting to get a bit complicated since at the moment I had to :
                          1 download and install superoneclick
2 setup the debug driver with superoneclick
3 run root access from superoneclick (to get SU installed correctly)
                          4 download rootexplorer
                          5 download App Injector
6 copy both to sd card
                          7 install root explorer
                          8 run root explorer
9 edit the init.sun4i.rc to change to 2 mounts to RW
                          10 save
                          11 reboot
                          12 install app injector
13 run app injector (gplay at least)
                          14 reboot
                          15 enjoy

There are some steps in there that start getting more complicated than we are looking for. I dont object too much to the superoneclick stuff since getting the debug drivers installed is not really a bad thing, but when we get into editing the init.sun4i.rc file it has gone into teritory we were trying to avoid in the first place I think

Petrus might be able to do that but it is complicated to change RW permissions from an APK. Thats up to him.

However once we get you guys a ROM then this will work with none of that mumbo jumbo.

If you guys are readys to flash boot.img in some way I can make you a new boot.img that is full ROOT with superuser and SU installed.
