T428 w/ Verizon FiOS - WiFi "Connected" - but NOT?

I've searched the forum for this specific issue and there was one thread that approached it, but the thread was closed after the initial post describing the problem and asking for help so, I got nothing out of that. Apologies if this has been covered, before.

    Here's my issue:

I just got a T428 and it seems to be working fine, except for wireless. But it isn't just entirely not working. It is giving me strange, mixed messages.

    My setup:

    * T428 running 4.2.2 (I have swapped out firmware and several different ROMs, all with the exact same results in each of them - currently Running Finless Bob's 1.5A ROM and the stock firmware).
    * Router is Verizon Actiontec MI424
    * Wireless Security is WEP (tried it with it switched off, no joy) Security is not really an issue - but I can run WPA or WPA2, if that would help). No MAC filtering or any other intentional security/log-on slow-downs.
    * Router channel is "automatic" (I tried setting it to a static channel, per some other instructions - no help).

I'm (ideally) running the T428 w/ an IpazzPort Air Mouse/Keyboard but I have also tried it with a hard-wired USB mouse, just to limit interference. Again, no difference.

    The Observed Behavior:

In the "Settings" page, I can turn on WiFi and it sees my network, correctly identifies it as having WEP protection and asks for the WEP password to connect to it.

Upon input of the WEP password, the WiFi icon on the Settings page lights, shows good signal and it says "Saved, WEP Protected."

BUT! in the Task Bar, the WiFi icon remains blanked out - and there is actually no internet connection (i.e. browser won't load pages, no network connection, etc.). If I click on the blank WiFi Icon in the Taskbar, it says "No Internet - 0%" and clicking it again brings up the Settings page where...

...you guessed it. It says I'm Connected with my Saved, WEP Protected home network.

Has anyone seen this conflicting "You're connected - No you're NOT!" messaging, depending on which screen you're looking at?

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    WEP

WEP is not compatible with 802.1n. You shoul tried wpa or best wpa2. But your question missing some infos.

    What type b, g, or n?
Are you using backward compatibility? (mean n+g) or only g, n, b?

You sort-of answered your own question: If WEP is incompatible with 802.11n, and I'm running WEP, then I'm not running 802.11n.

      The Verizon Actiontec MI424 is, in fact, ONLY 802.11 b & g.

Further testing - I took the whole shebang to my S.I.L.'s house and it found their WiFi (I don't know what their settings are, all I know is it detected thier network and logged on fine) and connected up just fine. So, it would seem it is an issue with my Verizon wireless network.

Does anyone know of any issues/solutions with connecting to the Verizon Actiontec MI424 router?

      Again, thanks for responses.

        WPA

802.11g is compatible with WPA and WEP. In 802.11n revision they didn't inclued WEP since lack of security, that mean T428 can't use WEP. You should be able to use g with WPA and T428 will connect.
        Sorry for al those edit.

See above. Apologies, I reversed the 802.11 "g" and "n" designations initially, inthe above-post.

I'm not running - and can not run - 802.11n.

          The Verizon Actiontec MI424 is ONLY 802.11 b & g.

I guess I'll try WPA or WPA2 but, like I said, I disabled security entirely, and that didn't seem to make a difference.

If you don't need 802.11b change the 802.11mode to g only instead of mix, maybe this could help.

Another tip, when changing setting in router don't only change setting in T428 wireless. Remove the network and then search again. Make a fresh entry in wireless setting on T428.

                wifi on, but not on

i had a similar issue where wifi was connected but internet could not display pages. as it turned out it was simply that my system time was wrong and i could not connect. when i corrected the system time (time zone, year, month, day), wifi kicked in immediately.
