Which version of MK908 to buy?

    Hi,

I'm reading through the threads but I'm not sure which version to buy. I've read Bob's thread ybout his MK v2 and he was very impressed with it. But what is the difference with v2 and v1? Geekbuying is selling v1(MK908) and v2(MK908II), I'm not sure where to find v3.

Also does anyone know if sunsky and Shenzhen Spring Technology Co.,Ltd. from aliexpress are valid Tonsmart sellers?

    Hello.
I have 2 pcs of MK908 V3. For this type at the moment is no very good ROM available. It works very good except VIDEO downloading ( Youtube,... ) is not working as it should ( buffering, buffering.... ). A lot of us are waiting for new ROM where this will be fixed.
For MK908 V1: this type I think is no longer on market.
New MK908 II: it has WiFi antenna outside which gives me thinking that this is some "Russian" solution.

I would recommend: keep away from Tronsmart.

I haven't have any of the mk908 divices but I think that the mk908II is the one that has more support from the devs (well, actually is the mk908 the one that seems to have more support but many people have been complaining about issues and bugs with that one)

and Bob (finless) and lewy20041 own a MK908II and there would be a new device from rikomagic called MK908II too and that looks like the tronsmart
Perhaps have a look at the K-R42...

            Version Confusion

Hi, I would recommend the mk908 II this is different from the V2 version. The release order of devices is as follows for the MK908; V1, V2, V3 and then II. The mk908 II has an external antenna and is in my opinion is excellent, see Finless's opinion of the device here http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...or-the-better!. The device can play 1080 OK via xbmc and does not have issues rebooting while playing video, at least in my experience.

Here is a link to the device that I am talking about, the MK908II http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Trons...ck-318432.html

            Martin.

Thank you all for the input.

Is it really that bad? I would only need it mostly for browsing the net on TV, not really for watching full hd movies...

So I would mostly want a device with good WIFI reception a stable web browser.

Than you have to use a device with external antenna and I think the MK908II is OK (or the K-R42) and after some time and ROM's later, 1080P will work perfectly too
(My problem is, I can not decide MK908II or K-R42 )

                  Choices, choices...

Also, just to confuse matters a bit more, there is also a T-R42, which has Bluetooth in it too (K-R42 does not), which will be handy is you want to use a gamepad (most are BT).

Personally, I have owned the original MK808 (very good once I wired in a cable to enhance the WiFi and put a Finless ROM on it), MK908 (original one, good with stock ROM, better with jjh's custom ROM).

Currently I have the MK908 v3 (checked board inside). This works well
for me. I use tTorrent to grab the stuff I need, directly onto a 1TB hard drive (via a powered USB hub), and control it using an RC11 wireless remote. Kids love it too, as I've ripped their DVD's and stuck them all on there too (less scratched discs!), and there are quite a few games for them as well.

I'm also thinking about the MK908ii and T-R42. Either way, thankfully they are not too much money, and a good way to get into the Android TV stick world. And, once a new one comes out, you can always sell on the old one and upgrade. I only lost a bit of money ($5-$10) on each of my old ones, so I just considered it like a "rental fee" to try out these cool devices! :-)

Remember, there will always be a newer, better, faster one out "soon", and if you wait, you will never get one! Just grab one, play around with it to see what is good and what isn't, then sell it on once the next one comes out that you like the look of. Whichever one you choose, it will still be fun, and a good learning experience to flash ROM's and how to organise a ton of cables behind your TV.

                    MK908II comes with bluetooth, right?

Also, you think this would work with Android?

                    I ordered it already anyways.

MK908ii has bluetooth, but some here report issues with it on certain dongles and ROMs

That keyboard unit looks OK, and another **** seller states it does work ok on Android.
