    Info about S8 tablets?

I have an Polaroid S8 tablet, and yes, that's what it says on the back: S8. Anyone have any information about them? Here is the specs from the box:

I don't know anything about the device, but I think Android 4.2, Dual Core Cortex A7 and only 4 GB storage (minus the ROM size) seems like a strange combination to me.

You know what is weirder? The storage is 502mb 'internal' and 1.7gb 'sdcard'. That is before I put a 16gb SD in it. The SD I put in is called 'extsd'.

      What is with that?

(I think the space taken up by Android is hidden. Is that normal?)

Yes, the extra space is usually mounted and mapped as an "internal" sdcard. This means you only get 502mb for downloaded apps, unless you move them to the "internal" sd card. You can't use the "external" sd card for apps, unless you reformat it and swap the mount points for the internal and external cards. If you do that, then you can't mount the external SD card in windows anymore. This is true of both phones and tablets with "internal" storage. Google really needs to come up with a way to install apps on a secondary or external SD card.

          Ah, Thanks for explaining that.

I wonder if it has something to do with how Android manages memory? Kinda like the old dos days when the first 640k of ram was special.

BTW, I have been able to root it with the free version of Unlock Root. I have installed Rom Toolbox lite and have messed with a few settings like sd booster. It now reads PDF files a lot better.

Don't know what it means, but if it helps, it has an ARM processor?

                root adb

none of the root programs sees this tablet even though its in debugging mode. did you root with original rom or updated rom active? any links for unlock root version you used?

Isn't this an amlogic based tablet? Did you try Cydia Impactor?

                    root

Tried sr root and none saw device. Was rooting w android 4.22 Rom which needs adb update I discovered. Will update adb today and try again. Also will look into cydia compactor. Maybe the bootloader is locked?

took it back and got the s10

As far as rooting, this may also work for the s8. Heres a thread for the s10! Excellent information!

So can these tablets update to newer versions of Android? I noticed that my son's Nexus 7 updated to 4.4 (KitKat?).

                            S8 Tablet Experience

                            -Google Play Store is preloaded.
-Has HDMI out (have not tried)
-Location Services work (unlike PTAB7XC, for me)
-Mic works well with Google Voice, Google Maps work well.
-Browser(s) work very slowly. Comes with Chrome and Maxthon as additional browsers.
-Rounded short sides, where can we find a case?
-Limited memory available to install apps. Tried one that downloads additional content after install and it failed (Dungeon Defenders). Is there a way to install bigger apps to a microSD card?
-SoundCloud does not play audio in a browser or in the SoundCloud App.
-Minecraft PE is playable with fancy graphics
                            -DuoLingo works well
-Video playback with bluetooth works well, though you'll have letterboxing in many instances due to the 1024x768 resolution.

There are several apps that can move apps to the external SD card. I have used Titanium Backup Pro on my other tablets. I haven't used it on my S8 yet as it has to be rooted first...
