    Rooting MK808B with Windows 8

    Hi all,

Been at it all day and it hasn't gone well.. My device came unrooted and I firstly went to install a pre-rooted ROM - went fine until I couldn't find a version that booted and had working wifi/bluetooth for my device. So I got back to stock and tried to root manually but I just can't seem to get anywhere with it. Can't get the right drivers installed in Windows 8 it seems. Any help would be much appreciated.

Was it Finless' ROM that wouldn't boot? If so, it might be that you are not using a 1080p TV (yes, even if you've flashed the 720p kernel). Finless' 720p ROM has a flaw where it is set to display in 1080p by default until you go into the settings and change it to output in 720p. Best way to go about doing that is to just ask someone with a 1080p TV if you can connect your MK808B for a minute just to change and save the setting.

CWM recovery also wouldn't work on my 1080i TV, so I had to connect it to a 1080p TV in order to use CWM to flash. mo123 mentioned it also doesn't display correctly on 720p TVs either

If you can get access to a 1080p TV, I suggest installing CWM and then flashing Digitop's firmware.

      Hi Bueno,
Yes it was his ROM (I should make it clear I've only tried his - just various versions) . That was an issue I had and did use a 1080p TV to change it. Still stayed blank when I went back. Have a feeling it didn't remember the setting.
That Digitop ROM looks nice but even if I get clockwork installed and manage to flash it I think I'll probably still have bluetooth and wifi issues. My device seems like a fairly new variant and no kernel/ROM combination has had everything working for me yet - unless I've missed one/some.

mo123 has actually provided instructions at the bottom of the Digitop ROM topic on how to use digitop's ROM with clones so that you wouldn't lose WIFI/BT. You'll need to flash the firmware, identify which clone you have, then flash the kernel of your clone to the device. I think it can be done by using Finless' flash tool (only put a check next to kernel.img to be flashed, uncheck everything else) but you should try to get someone else to confirm this, since I've never done it.

edit: You'll need to find someone who has dumped your clone's kernel.

Thanks again, okay yeah I'll have to try find one at some point. For now though I read someone saying a Imito ROM from Bob has all working except Bluetooth, which is the best combination for me so far so I'll try that.

So I just went to the Imito finless rom without working bluetooth. Found it struggles with Plex servely whereas stock run it like a breeze. Damn this has been a huge issue! All I want is stock but rooted. Actually contacted the Amazon seller to see if they can provide a rooted version of the ROM.

Do you know if this ROM is based on Android 4.1 or 4.2? 4.1 is older, but known to work better on the MK808 than 4.2 ROMs.
