I purchased the above model in silver off amazon a week ago and was looking forward to receiving it until I came across this forum. The general consensus seemed to be the box was garbage, overheats, firmware issues - not worth the time of day. I was gutted, I'd researched (countless you tube videos) long and hard over getting a new android box and knew I'd be sending this one back as soon as it came. I even started researching alternatives on this Forum/you tube as well this time. I wanted 3 usb ports for gaming (but would accept two if I had too). It must be able to play 4k videos on you tube and most importantly, be able to play games like asphalt 9, well. From the you tube vids this one looked ideal and was at a price I could just about afford on amazon ?50. But I was resigned to having to buy something else i.e H96 Max x2 or T95q as alternatives once I got my money back as the you tube vids looked positive. But, it was irking me that in the case of the H96 Max that it struggled with 4k videos at 30 & 60fps, could not play you tube at 4k despite its excellent gaming properties. And the T95q had box reset issues according to this forum.I thought what is going on with android boxes and their firmware today?!
While I was umming and ahhing the Scishion arrived in the post.
I set it up with some trepidation, reluctantly adding a few apks just to see what it could do. It seemed to boot up quite quickly and the menu navigation was snappy and quick. I got up and felt how warm it was. Im being silly I thought, it hadn't been 10mins yet. Slightly warm, nothing major. I checked out you tube 4k videos - they played smoothly with no issues. I felt how warm it was again, no change, slightly warm nothing to worry about. I tried voice recognition, after signing in to google services it worked fine. That's odd, people said the voice thing was a gimmick but it works just as well as my firestick version. I felt a little positive. I checked how warm it was (a recurring theme) I installed Riptide 2. The game ran fast and smoothly. I allowed myself a little smile, I checked how warm it was - again, nothing major, not hot to the touch. I then remembered in one you tube video the scishion box got hot after playing asphalt 8. I opened google play and downloaded and installed the game. I played for 40mins straight. I got up to check how hot it was with some trepidation. Slightly warmer but still no issue. I checked you tube again, streamed 4k videos - all worked fine. Had I got lucky, could this be a new batch of scishion boxes with updated firmware. I checked the temperature with the cpu monitor apk and so far it has fluctuatd between 57degrees and 80 degrees dependant on what I was doing (with no loss of performance). In fact, so far it has been brilliant. Games run so smooth on this thing. I dont know how its benchmark tests where in the 30 thousands because in day to day use this thing does all I can ask from it. Its early days I know but I am so happy with the box so far. The design is brilliant too, slimline with a cool led clock.
As Im a paranoid chap and still worried (due to this forum) that the box may one day start to overheat I stuck on four mini plastic rubber legs to the underneath of the box to allow more airflow and help cooling.
P.s Im not saying to take the lottery of buying this box because it would be a bummer to have overheating issues but for me so far, it has been brilliant.
P.PS does anyone know what other CABLE controllers this box recognizes, i've only been able to get it to work with PS3 controllers (not interested in bluetooth controllers) - thanks.
