Custom Recovery Without PC

Is there any way to install a custom recovery or just install a new ROM without a PC? I got my box and would like to try out some of the new ROMs. I don't have a OTG cable.

You might hold on just a minute.....

CWM isn't really intended to completely flash a NEW ROM to your device. Different custom ROM's have variations in parameters that tell the flash tool where the partitions go on the device. Because of that, you really need to flash custom ROM's from a PC. If the partitions already on your device are different sizes than the custom ROM, you could brick your device because things just can't overlap.

Manufacturers use the update.img from recovery...but they try to keep everything in standard partition sizes.

Here is an excerpt from a post I just made on one of my Pipo threads:

[COLOR=#333333]I keep an external SD in all of my tablets, and use Titanium Backup to keep a complete backup of apps/data. I keep the backup up to date with the current versions of each of my apps. After flashing a ROM, I immediately set up wifi, enter my Google account and go the Google Play Store to install Titanium. Then I tell Titanium that my backup is on my external SD and do a "restore missing apps with data" from Titanium, and within minutes my tablet is always back to everyday use....it takes about 10 minutes...(because the whole process is second nature to me, now).[/COLOR]

So, I think you would have better luck holding off on using CWM to flash new ROM's...and go get a USB cable. You will have much better results....if you can get the Rockchip Drivers installed properly, you'll be good to go.

Yes, is right, cwm can't resize partitions, can't flas the bootloader nor parameters and it cant erase the full nand.

rrileypm and Leolas, not debating with you guys, but the question is: "is it possible to flash cwm or rom without a PC" the answer is YES it's possible, you can use "update.zip with a cwm zip and su zip" to install SU and install cwm, once cwm and ROOT SU installed, you can use it to flash cwm rom flashable zip like finless rom(http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390355257214632250). Of course you don't have many options like repartition etc... but just to get a custom rom (as is) with cwm and root, it's possible.

I know how Flash without pc cwm in rk3188 or rk3066, from terminal, and the device must be rooted, I don't know how to make a update.zip that can be flashed from the stock recovery.
Root is the problem, I don't know how root the device without pc.

Ah, found the missing link, yes you can install cwm and root without a PC, just copy the update.zip and cwm/su zip to the root of your sdcard, it automatically prompt to update, click yes, and it reboot your device into flash mode then it asks you which version of SU you want to use (leither superuser or superSU, I tried both and superSU is better), just pick one and it proceed to flash cwm and root files, once done it auto reboot your device back up and you need to rename/delete the update.zip from your sdcard otherwise it keeps prompt you again to update. I did this myself and worked great, I don't remember where I found the info but I do have all the files.

This ways worked in old 4.1 for rk3066 devices. For 4.2 roms this not work, at least for me.
