    Arnova 10 G2 replacement Screen

Hi everyone, I have been recommended to seek help here, I am over the Pond in the UK, I purchaed the arnove10G2 for my wife at christmas after approx 5 weeks the screened cracked, we still have no idea of how. I contacted arnova/archos here in UK . who informed the warranty was now void (guessed that myself) and that they didn't do repairs and only offered me £25 off a new model.

I couldn't afford to throw away a newly purchased tablet, and find the money for a new one. I asked if they did or knew where I could get a replacement screen, to which they ignored.

I think it is a little out of order to not offer replacements as it makes the tablet useless, it maybe a good business but terrible customer care. So my hope is that someone can help me out in trying
    find

    a replacement screen

Many thanks and any help advice appreiated (my kyeboard isn,t working correctly on here sorry for typos)

    Hello

I think it may be quite difficult for you if the manufacturer have closed the doors on you. You best bet would be to search out the auction sites like **** , Gumtree etc for a spares or repair one. Lucky for you this could be a 10G2, 10BG2 capacitive, 10G2 Philly, Archos 101 etc, as they all use the same screens. Alternative contact Archos as this company makes the hardware. Arnova customer support unfortunately is lacking so you may have better luck with them.

            update

Just a little update, recieved a reply from Archos UK

            Dear Gordon

Unfortunately we do not stock spare parts I’m afraid, so this will not be
possible. You have been advised correctly, your device is now classed as out
of warranty, so the trade-in offer is all we are able to offer. We are able
offer a trade in (25% discount) for any available model on our website
www.archos.com. If this is something you would be interested in, please let
me know. You may be able to locate a third party repairer that are able to
replace the screen, an internet search may provide some favorable results.
Please be aware however, that these types of repairs can prove quite costly
and may cost more than a discounted device.

yea discount a little better, have done my math and still cannot afford it. an equivilent model will cost me £250 less 25% will cost me approx £187, allowed in reduction roughly £63 for a 5-6 week old tablet which cost £135

I am waiting to hear back from a site which offers repairs on Archos models (and mine is included) seemingly starting at approx £69. Is this pans out I use them. Will post details later, when I hear back

At least they replied. I am not sure if you found a place to get it repaired but I got an iPhone cracked glass repaired for about 50 dollars if I remember correctly from a place I found by searching the Internet.

                      **** to the rescue!

                      ****!
                      http://www.****.co.uk/itm/Arnova-10-...item3cc16482f4

£74 (inc P&P) for a 10.1" screen doesn't seem too bad really considering some prices of mobile phone screens. You'd need to check if it is all one unit. i.e. LCD + digitizer (the bit that makes it touch screen), or whether it's just a LCD panel and digitizer is seperate. It may well be an all-in-one piece (from the description).

                      Or possibly bid on:
                      http://www.****.co.uk/itm/Arnova-10-...item3cc4cdd8ec

And you'll have an entire 10G2 as spares (minus a screen of course).

I haven't done a tablet screen before, but have done mobile phones and laptops. Don't think they'll be anything over complicated about it although can be overwelming for some people to attempt.

I would however more consider a second hand unit. i.e. My girlfriend brought a Arnova 10 G2 second hand in mint condition for £100. Brand new if you look around they're £140 http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mob...P&promo=GLSHOP

                      Still better than £180+

A new unit is twice the price of a screen replacement, and second hand unit is inbetween that (if you can find one?! Amazon market place maybe or again, ****?).

Only issue here is it doesn't specify G2 model so not sure if this one is the same? Specs look the same though...

Let us know how you get on. I can offer to replace the screen if you pay for the new screen £74, postage (there & back) (£?.??) and £15 to do it - but by the time you've done that.... you could have brought a second hand unit. Try the links that gordo sent for estimates as they'll provide the screen and postage return will all be included.

Got mine from them 3 weeks ago - was same price of £140.

                        http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...condition=used
The images show a 10g2, but 'used-good' isn't new or in mint condition.

If you can afford the £140 for a new one from carphonewarehouse, then you'll have your existing one as spares, or at a later date, replace screen with the newest one, and you'll have a near mint device again.

                          Agreed! ;o)

By the time you've messed about buying a screen and getting someone to fit it, probably isn't worth messing about with due to the high cost of the screen itself. Would really only be worth considering the cost if your capable of fitting it yourself then at least you save on that cost - then it's £74. Otherwise, totally agree with Gargoyle - put the extra to it and for £140 have a spanking new one. Possibly consider an extended warranty.... and after a few months, send the faulty one back and get that repaired! They normally jot down the serial numbers once a repair has been made so only that unit will be valid for the extended warranty... but then you and the wifie can have one each ;o)
