    Need Some Reassurances

Hey guys. I've been lurking around the site for a while now, trying to gather all the information I could about the Android PCs. As soon as I found out about them, the wife and I knew we wanted one.

I read a bunch and watched a lot of reviews and we decided on the X7. However, as I've been digging through the forums here a little more aggressively and I've been noticing a lot of people having some pretty major problems with this machine.

My wife and I have very little money, and we saved our pennies for the last few months and ordered this. It hasn't arrived yet, but now I'm getting a bit worried. Did we make a mistake going with this one? Do all the custom roms and all that really make this work well? We'll mostly be streaming our content from xbmc through the various awesome plugins and such. Is this going to run them well?

Sorry if this is a bit wasteful of space, but I'm just worried we're going to have problems with this and maybe should have gotten a cheaper device. I don't know. I could really use the input of you smart folks right about now! Thanks.

I don't think of it that way the x7 Has 90% of its problems fixed, a couple of months ago you couldn't even play video with it smoothly and much peope had many shutdowns, but it is getting better and better. Right now the only problems I read bout are things like "when I connect this mouse I get shutdowns" or "when i use this HDMI cable I get a frozen screen" or " I'm getting ramdom shutdowns for no reason". I'm not saynig that people dont have problems with this device but those are not common problems, only a few peope have this problems and even those will be fixed eventually. Hope you don't get any problems with your x7!

As long as you install the correct Rom and software, its a great piece of kit. Most people now have small problems unlike 2 months ago where we could hardly play a video. I'd imagine in another month or so it will pretty much be perfect. I'm a flashaholic and I think I've almost found the perfect set up with Finless 1.6 and phj OC kernel.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I've never dealt with switching ROMs or anything of that nature before. Hopefully this won't be too complicated.

I just keep getting this feeling we wasted a lot of money here when we could have gone with one of the $40 sticks and just had everything work.

Now if Geekbuying would just ship the thing. I ordered on the 3rd and it hasn't been shipped out yet. Hopefully soon!

            Need Some Reassurances

I can just with my experience in mind. If I should by a Machine where can use streaming apps like NFL game pass, Netflix and others i would look else where. Im just not convinced this will ever become the machine i expected. The Android community is great but the companies making the apps just dont care if the apps will run or run optimal on RK3188 deviceses. And with that in mind i would buy a device there will be able to use other methods to getting the services like a windows media device where you can stream the services through a browser like the old days or get a device raspberry pie there run a Linux with XBMC and a browser for services there is not supported with XBMC addons.
And another problem with RK3188 is the developer of the chip it self. They dont seem to be able to Code a properly SDK for there devices and keep it closed source so the communities has to guess a d hack to try and fix the aweful code the Chinese had made. And when i say this is i dont belive RK3188 will ever be able to play videos with all kinds of codecs, fps and other settings you can set up when you convert videos now a days, like the old but reliable WD live players has been doing for years now with a crisp picture and almost flawless playback with what ever settings you have made when you converted your video with.

So all in all buy something else there isnt made by RocKchip and properly stay away from Android because the companies just dont care about there apps comparability.

Thats my 25 cent on this matter.

Are you using "kernel_phja_720_vsfsam_cpu1800h_gpu600_ddr800 " or

              "kernel_phja_1080_vsfsam_cpu1800h_gpu600_ddr80 0" ?

              Is it stable ?

                I am using: kernel_phja_1080_vsfsam_cpu1704h_gpu600_ddr720

I am running XBMC 24/7, the box is always on. It is completely stable. I am using a Measy 2.4ghz fly mouse. I am using a nightly version of Gotham, and it did have some stuttering issues streaming, but I added the <network> streaming options and all settled down. I am using XBMC to play both addons and local media (but all streamed)... including music and photographs... as well as movies, of course. The only problem I currently have is poor audio quality, I have not been able to solve that. The x7 has an optical port, but I haven't tried hooking it up yet, I don't know if that will make any difference or not. I am using audio over the HDMI cable in analogue mode (the digital audio over HDMI is awful).

To get a better system, it looks like you would need to spend $250 or more, around twice the cost of the x7. The cheaper $40 sticks don't seem to do better than the x7, and in fact, in some areas are worse. They have less memory, less disc space, less of pretty much everything. I wouldn't try anything less than a quad core system. If you want to use Netlix Hulu or other online commercial streaming services, then I would not go with an Android system, but something like a DVD/Bluray player that has the apps built-in. I use a Sony Bluray player for these apps, much better than the Android versions, because they were written for the "small" screen of a tablet or cell phone, not a TV. Just my opinion. XBMC though won't run on a DVD/Bluray player, so I purchased the x7 to gain access to XBMC.

Thanks for the reply pawnslinger, I think I made right choice.

I had the MK802IV 16GB but it had many issues and finally shipped it back

I've been using the 720p one because I don't really need 1080p and the 720p is just a little bit faster, not a really noticeable differenc, but again I don't really need 1080p. It's really stable an the Oc kerneles have no side-effects at all.

                      Thanks Diegocaxudo

What are the stock clock speed for CPU, GPU and DDR for X7 ?

Just to see if worth it to take the risk for everyday use !

                        CPU: 1.6ghz GPU:600 Ram: I'm not sure but I think it's 667

You might think its not that much but it really boosts up the system and makes it smoother, and withthe OCed kernels gaming has been better for me.

Just an update on me. I ordered the X7 through GB on the 3rd. It's now almost the 22nd and it still hasn't arrived. On the 14th I got an email saying the remote I bought with it wasn't in stock until the 15th. Then got another email on the 17th saying it finally shipped. So, now I get to play the waiting game even more, wondering how long it takes something from China to make it to the west coast of the US.

Most of my worries are washing away reading some of you folks using the thing all the time. That's nice to know. However, I've never flashed and re-rommed one of these things before, so that should be an exciting experience.

Anyway, thanks for everyone taking time to post in here. I really appreciate it.
