i've been doing some reading and i know about replace remote.conf to get your remote to work

the thing is there is no remote.conf on the t95q and flashing most roms makes the remote not work. Whether android 8 or 9.

My question is...how do i get the t95q remote to work on a custom rom with android 8.1

it depends on the rom.
there is a patch to get the remote working for this android 9 rom by sasvlad :
