how did you get the antenna to connect to the pin antenna in there? soldered it on or?

also, what heatsinks did you put on there? and where exactly?

          Good idea!

I liked the idea of this mod, and having an old 3G antenna lying around (eg: http://www.****.co.uk/itm/190689013152 ), decided to hook it up for my MK908v3 to see if this would help matters, and it certainly does!!

          Steps, and images:
          1) Took apart the MK908 unit, and drilled a small hole in the case, up from where the "push" WiFi connector hit the inside top lid, on the small (and useless) foil WiFi antenna - remove this too

          2) Cut the TS9 connector off the new external antenna

          3) Fed the cable through the hole, ready for soldering (don't forget this, as you'll only have to unsolder it again )

          4) Cut away about 5mm of the black shielding wire, and also cut off the centre connector cable, leaving the surrounding wire available to solder (more of this wire, so easier to solder)

          5) Used the soldering iron to heat up the pad where the current wifi "pin" is, and pulled it off

          6) Twisted the wire a bit into a small bunch, then soldered it onto the pad where the pin used to be

          7) Clipped a small cable tie to the cable just above the solder and trimmed of the excess. This will keep the cable safe from kids/cats pulling the unit, and ripping the solder off.

          8) Clipped it all back together, for a nice and neat finish.

Having done this, my WiFi link is now *much* faster - the SpeedTest app now shows an average 10+MB download link, not the crappy 3-4MB I had before. It is much more reliable - a constant 3-4 bars constantly on WiFi and is not really dropping the link at all now.

Nice mod, and quite easy if you can solder!
