Arnova 9G2 Finless 1.5 Beta Test ROM

    Arnova 9G2 Finless 1.5 Beta Test ROM

    OK folks I am done with the 9G2 1.5 ROM. Since all of the developers involved cannot test this ROM, this is a BETA test. You guys tell us what works and what does not. I have tested the boot of it and it is not a brick ROM. But we cannot test anything else. I believe this will be the production ROM too but only your testing will let us know!

    Note, unlike the 10G2 this is using the same kernel as the 9G2 1.4 ROM as Arnova has not released a new kernel. It also has 3G support like the 1.4 ROM.

    PLEASE READ THE README in the ROM kit for even more details!




    Please test and report the following:

    1) Overall ROM Performance and Stability
    2) Petrus' App Injector. Did it work and find the package.zip? Did it inject apps properly? Did they work?
    3) Miklaus' updated settings.apk. Please try to test all the menus in settings. Let us know what should be removed or things that cause a force close that should work. Your feedback here gives you a better settings menu!
    4) Mikalus Clear Status Bar. Does it work and look good and is usable?
    5) The WPA supplicant. Does it work like before and give you adhoc?
    6) Please try not to report bugs that are in the stock ROM. There is not much we can do about them at this time.

    First off the bat?

    Bob, just downloading now. Good timing as I was just re-flashing after trying out MorkaMod's 1.15 ROM (nice and pretty but not what you would call stable).
    I have high hopes for this one. I'll let you know how things go

      All loaded up and everything installed as per instructions. Just going to spend some time setting up everything for everyday use (Gmail, Hotmail, Opera, Dolphin HD, Evernote, etc ...). I'll be sure to keep you in the loop

          Downloading now, will report back soon (fingers crossed). Is the clear status bar different to your modded system apk? Using that with 1.4 and its great.

            Yes the clear status bar is there but was this time made specifically by Miklaus for the 9G2 so things should line up better.

              After playing for hour or so ...

              1) Seems nice and stable in normal use and works smoothly, scrolling seemed to me to be noticeably more responsive in both dolphin hd and stock browsers. I did manage to freeze it twice playing with wireless settings, tried to set it as a wireless hotspot whilst connected to home wifi (ok, didn't expect it to work but thought i'd try ) wifi became unstable then locked up the tablet on both occasions. Normal wifi use worked fine and stable.
              2) Petrus injector worked without any problem, google maps force closed on injection but app was installed and working on completion.
              3) Settings menu seems to work just fine, no force closes experienced. would say though, that a lot of the extra settings options are of little use to us due to them being phone related.
              4) Status bar is all good, hard to see any difference to previous version, definitely prefer it to the stock status bar. Only downside i've noticed is that the clock gets 'lost' when browsing due to it being same colour as the browser header, a minor detail but i'm guessing a simple adjustment to clock text colour would fix it.
              5) Connected to my mobile wifi hotspot and allowed me to browse with no problems.

              Cracking job, well done guys

                  Also noticed the clock is hiding (white text on white background not a good mix). Status bar only seems to be transparent when on home screen. Not a major issue, just a bit of a pain.

                    So far so good

                    Hi, been using latest build best part of the day and it's as stable as 1.4 (read very) and very responsive. Everything has installed fine and Play (marketplace) doesn't seem to have any issues. Haven't tried any other of the google bloatware (maps, etc).

                          Seems to working fine for me, accounts&sync are running with no problems, also the hole settings-menu.

                            Miklaus and Petrus, I think we have our production ROM here!

                            So far no issues from anyone.

                            I think I will release this as production after one more day of user input.

                            Next up is the Arnova 7 G2

                              One more thing to add.....

                              Understand this folks. Miklaus, Petrus and I were working "in the dark" creating this ROM for the 9G2. None of us have any way to test our work since none of us have the 9G2.

                              So the fact that the first 1.5 ROM created works with no issues and you folks are happy with it, is in my opinion simply a great achievement by the team.

                              Can I just give a big hand to Petrus and Miklaus

                              Oh and Lets not forget Damo with the boot screen art! You all might think that is trivial but the guy spent a lot of time making boot screens and listening to user feedback. Correct me if I am wrong but Daman did a freaking great job with the artwork all in his own free time!!

                              Sorry, I just got to give props the people that helped make this happen. I hope you all do not mind.
