With that budget you could easily go for many S905X3 boxes and the S905X3 is a definite step up.
With most of the S905X2/X3 and newer boxes you can also run side by side a product called CoreELEC, which offers Youtube, Netflix 1080p and great for retro gaming, so you can have the best of both worlds.
Have a look through the S905X2/X3 sections of this forum to see what people are using and recommending.
It's worth the investment in time to see what is popular and reliable.
Also use Youtube to watch many of the reviews so you can get a better idea of the pros and cons of the various options, which includes not only boxes but single board computers (SBC's) too.
