    Windows 8.1

    Since upgrading to 8.1 I can't get a proper USB connection to my M8. I've tried uninstalling all signs of any related drivers but the flashing tool stills fails to connect.

    I've been reading that Windows 8.1 doesn't support the current Rockchip drivers. Still no solution available, as far as I know. When the new drivers appear, we'll include them in our ROM kits.

    In the meantime, you might try to find an old box laying around with XP-Win7 to flash from.

        Hello All,

        Ok. Temporary workaround for windows 8.1 users until we get the drivers.
        1. Connect your device to the computer in flash mode. The computer will say “USB Device Not Recognized”. Go to Device Manager and you will see your device listed as “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” in “Universal Serial Bus controllers” section
        2. Now in “Universal Serial Bus controllers” section you should also have “USB Root Hub”’s (might be several of them). Click through them and find the one that has “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” in the “Power” tab (should be next to General).
        3. Right click on that “USB Root Hub” and press “Disable”. Now you should have a small arrow pointing down on the USB Root Hub icon and the “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” should have disappeared.
        4. Now you have to go to the folder where the RKBatchTool is located on your system. Find the file "config.ini" and open it. Find the section where it says:

        LOGFLAG=TRUE
        #SUPPORTLOWUSB=TRUE时,扫描支持full speed usb设备,默认只支持high speed usb设备
        SUPPORTLOWUSB=

        Write TRUE next to the second “SUPPORTLOWUSB=”

        It should be like this:

        LOGFLAG=TRUE
        #SUPPORTLOWUSB=TRUE时,扫描支持full speed usb设备,默认只支持high speed usb设备
        SUPPORTLOWUSB=TRUE

        Save the file and open the RKBatchTool as usual and you should see the green square in Connected Devices.

        Now you will be able to flash the rom. The flashing process might take longer than usual but it works.

        P.S: If you have never previously installed Rockchip drivers on your system you might need to do those steps before doing the ones above:
        1) First you need do reboot windows with driver signature disabled: configure->change pc settings-> update & recovery -> recovery-> advanced startup -> troubleshoot -> advanced options -> restart -> 7

                Link doesn't load for me. If it is the same one released claiming to be v3.7, then they do not work anyway. The details of those drivers were misleading. They claim to work for Windows 8.1, but then in the same text, they ask people to verify whether it works or not for 8.1 and to contact them indicating such. After scanning for viruses and finding nothing, I tried them and they didn't work. So we are still in the dark, unless someone finds/makes a better way.

                  Michael T.

                  I have seen these steps posted a few different places now. I tried for well over an hour yesterday to reproduce these steps. Restarting, deleting drivers, making sure Windows doesn't complain about unsigned drivers, etc. Nothing worked. Fortunately I have a Win 7 comp to fall back on, but seems like a waste for something that should just work... (given that it did in pre-8.1 versions of 8).

                  Someone indicated in another forum (I don't recall or have the link handy) that in 8.1, MS rewrote the USB stack which effectively broke a lot of older drivers. I assume it was rewritten for efficiency/speed reasons, but not worth it if it breaks everything!

                    For sure it will be same driver. I thought i'd share, with a little luck it could have been the right one. Anyway, thanks for your explanation.
