Its a disposable society unfortunately, and these boxes we test are no different.
Most/all boxes have no support and the promised firmware update never released.
There are exceptions of course, but not in most peeps price range.
There is lots of life left in older boxes and not necessary to throw out.
So if you are helping a friend, or dusting off and old box, new purchase 2020
No matter which Rom or Android version you are using.
Here are some suggestions to help hopefully!
Goooooooooooogle is Andriod
Android is Goooooooooooogle
So sign in to play store and update services, reboot
You will see improvement in speed less lag etc..yes factory firmware runs smoother also.
Custom Roms also improvement
Most importantly is some apps like Nutflux, utbe, etc.. need to see permissions, certification or they wont work.
You really don't need to use the store ever again, stay signed in so services will update.
Install APK files yourself from trusted sources like, APK Pure, Aptoide, Apk Mirror, etc...
All OS have and installer app, or es file explorer, apk installer, etc..
Use APK Files that match your Android Version/are compatible with..
Sometimes you will have to use older versions of apps,video player etc..
EXP : testing older version Android 6
You will need Nutflux APK for Andriod version 6 or it wont work.
And if that version is only 480P thrs not much you can do..
If you have older hardware updating MX player with new codecs can cause issues.
Or try VLC XYZ One player etc..
Its been said these boxes OS are phone clones
We can all whip through settings in our phones
So do the same with your box, play arnd with settings.
Learn how to clear cache, turn off notifications, permissions etc..
Customize to your liking!!!
Save your work, make a back up,
Make another backup.
You really cant hurt them to much, if you do
