What problems were you seeing before you fixed the stick with an older finless build? Did you use the old finless build to just erase your IDB only? Or did you erase your IDB and also flash the old ROM and then flashed a newer ROM build? Do you remember which finless old build you used?

I can't seem to get around all the IDB erase failures and/or Dowload IDB failures.

I couldn't erase the rom so I started thinking of another way to erase and re-flash. I'm pretty sure I used the Finless 1.6b to erase and then I flashed with the Neomode 1.3. Also for some weird reason the USB cable that game with my CX919 does an awful job at flashing the rom. I have to use the USB cable that came with my Logitech K810. Make sure to reboot and to plug your USB cables directly into your PC and don't plug them into a hub when flashing.

I'm pretty sure I started having problems erasing after I tried the NEO X7 Finless 1.7 rom on my CX919. I know it's not built for the CX919 so I didn't mention it. I usually use the 4Gb partition if that matters. I never use the 6GB and occasionally use the 2GB standard.

I'm using a Dell XPS 17 laptop with USB 3 and Win7 to flash the CX919. I hear Win8 might have flashing issues.

Thanks for your answer. Tried dialing back to Finless 1.4 and still no dice. Like before, I can get my stick recognized, and successfully perform an IDB erase, then when trying to flash the ROM I get an "IDB Download error." A subsequent try at flashing the ROM causes a "Test Device fail" and then I can't even erase the IDB unless I disconnect the stick from the PC and put it back into flash mode then the process happens all over again. See result below:

Any ideas how to proceed. I'm very close to sending my stick back in for a refund/replacement, but I hesitant about getting a replacement if this issue comes up again.

AW: New CX-919 owner. Error after reset while flashing ROM.

I think some guys had similar problems recently and they solved it by doing the first flash using mask rom mode. Definitely worth a try, but dont ask me how to do that...

Thanks for the reply. I solved this issue. The reason for the failures within the flash tool was due to a combination of a non-compatible USB cable and non-compatible USB port.

non-compatible USB cable = tool not recognizing your stick
non-compatible USB port = IDB failures and test device failures

In my situation, you must use the USB cable that came with the stick. I had a bunch of microUSB to USB cables and forgot which one came with the stick. Once I used the proper one, the tool recognized my stick. I'm not sure what the difference between one cable vs. another is, but I did notice the cable that the stick came with is short (1m) so maybe that has something to do with it. Regardless, you should "mark" the cable that came with your stick somehow (I use tape) so you always know which one is compatible with the stick.

In terms of the USB port, my stick probably didn't like something I had plugged into my PC. When I tried this with a new PC I had no issue. Suggest if you get these errors that you unplug just about everything from your PC and see if this solves the problem. If it still exists try a USB 2.0 port directly off the motherboard (on the back of the PC) and/or a different PC.

I also noticed even on the new PC that I would get occassional "Test Device" errors. This is solved by just re-clicking on "Flash ROM" in the tool. Sometimes I needed to do this 3 or 4 times, but eventually the flash tool would DL the ROM to the stick without the error being posted.

BTW, I had all of these issue with a CX-919 V1 that I got from Geekbuying back in August of this year.

I also got my cables mixed up and had to find the correct one. Here are my findings: The ONLY way I can get Finless to flash is if I DO NOT erase first which I know is not a good thing. If I erased first, no matter what I do I cannot flash Finless. However, I can flash a stock rom, in fact I have to flash stock first then flash Finless. No matter how many times I retry, last count was 37 and I gave up and flashed stock then Finless. I'm not sure what that means but I wish I could do the erase and setup the 4gb partition. Something in the way the erase works causes no Finless to flash afterwards. Thanks for all the hard work FINLESS.
Forgot to mention, I just got my board 2 days ago.

Smithmal - can you tell me if the cx-919 you were having issues with is the RK3188T model? Mine is the T model and I bought it from Geek Buying earlier this year and I am having the reboot issues with it?
