Help identifying my device - and then a rom for it...
Help identifying my device - and then a rom for it...
Hi guys,
I'm a complete newbie to Android and just got myself a no-name Android TV box.
On the outside it looks like a Minix Neo X5 (which in turn looks like an Apple TV) only without an optical audio port.
I've run CPU-Z on it and it shows the following information, which doesn't help me identify a finless rom for it:
Model: V818
Board: rk30sdk
Hardware: rk30board
Kernel architecture: armv7l
CPU architecture: ARM Cortex A9
Can anyone please help me identify the appropriate finless rom for this?
I bought it from the Dragon Mart in Dubai, so no link unfortunately - it has no brand name at all on it, but is identical in appearance to the one on the link above (RK3066 based)
It looks to be a scaled down version of that one:
- My one has a resolution of 1280x672 while the one in the link claims 1080p.
- Mine does not have XBMC installed.
- I seem to have only one Mali 400 GPU
- I do not have an optical audio port
- The model number on mine is V818, so it very possibly a clone of an earlier CX-818.
Any idea which ROM I could use for it?
An where I could find this "modified" XBMC?
At first you have to find out what CPU inside. So as to do it, you should download AnTuTu benchmark test software and run it. Test will show how many CPU cores your devise has, two or four and then you will understand exactly which from CX-818 or CX-921 have you, because they are similar outside.
For your understanding all hese your devices have quad core mali-400, but different 2 or 4 core central processor.
If you have CX-818(Dual core), you can search for CX-818 , STB902B threads here in Freaktab and find some information.

Thanks very much for this Digger.
I'll run the Antutu test first thing in the morning - I'm pretty sure it's a dual-core.
I can confirm it's a dual-core so I'll look around for a CX-818 rom that also has Jellybean 4.2.2, which this one currently has.
Just need to figure out a few other things before flashing though - like how to get a wireless game pad to work - this unit has no bluetooth and using a BT dongle with my PS3 controller doesn't help. Maybe I'll get a wireless 2.4GHz game pad.
Hello b1gstan,
Can you inform me what is written in the setting>about device>kernel and build lines?
Concerning your question about game pad compatibility, sorry but I don't use my device with any game Pad. I use it for online videostream purpose only. But I know that is impossible to use BT dongle for this device. It takes to be implemeted some drivers to the ROM, but they are not present in any stock or custom ROM. You can try 2.4GHz game pad only.

Hi Digger,
Sorry for the delayed response.
Kernel version shows:
3.0.36+

Try flashing it with the Jynxbox Live RK3066 firmware and see how it works. There's an Android 4.2.2 firmware out there and I even have a custom Android 4.4 firmware you can try if it helps. I've got the inlaws using an old Jynxbox Live V2 with RK3066 with the Android 4.4 firmware. Very stable and fast.
