I tried resetting this box yesterday and now it won't let me download anything from the Play store.I'm going to ask the question should I upgrade the firmware on this box?

I dont think you need a new Rom

After Factory Reset
You need to sign back in To Play Store and update services.

All Apps will need updating..

Also as ath156 suggested try a diff version

Or if you have APK Pure APK installed

Open it up and in menu can update all your installed Apps/APKs
To latest Version
