Remember that all developers have a family, some of them a job, and a life out of the forum. For sure that when some developer with a T428 have some free time, he will make a Rom update.

And comments like the above makes me NOT want to work on a new ROM.
Great way to motivate someone guys

Thanks
If you've got the time to dive into deep Voodoo DooDoo and understand developer jargon, you might be able to toggle together a better firmware, but if you're like me and want a quick Press-n-Play, fixes everything, tested-to-hell-and-back solution, well, in my experience that's just not something to be had with these Straight-Outta-Shenzhen Android TV-sticks.

Maybe this will help you.
I just flashed the HFW 1.2.0 Final 720p firmware by Lewy. It has some nice built-in overclocking features. Netflix seems to work well, but isn't filling out my TV screen to the sides for some reason.
I've tried to download this firmware before but the link was dead. It's working now.
The firmware is a single image so it doesn't allow you to change storage parameters or use a different kernel.
I've yet to try XBMC or fiddle with the Tincore keymapper to see if it may allow us to play more games.
It spoofs a Samsung Galaxy S3 like what Bob has been doing.
I just barely started using it, so I've much more testing to do.
Udate Wow! Just wasted about 6 hours trying to accomplish something with TinCore Keymapper. Maybe it works on something but not on this firmware and maybe not on this device. I don't know why it was included. It's buggy as all heck. It's definitely the right idea for something that could be very usefull someday, but for now it's just a bag of frustration. The idea is to map your keyboard or gamepad to a virtual touchscreen but I couldn't get it to actually generate any touchcreen inputs. It kept crashing and losing my Xbox-360 compatible game controller - reporting that it was no longer present & crap. I finally gave up and uninstalled it. The new version from the Playstore is good at coercing you into monetary support but if anything adds more bugs and fixes nothing.
Now I gottta try to figure out which version of XBMC is supposed to work with this ROM. There goes another 679 hours of my life.
Just tried that latest v13 Gotham Alpha 9 which is supposed to have Andriod Hardware acceleration and it behaves just the same as ever. There is no onscreen indicator to let you know if it's software decoding or hardware decoding and I couldn't find any "enable" setting anywhere. So it seems that whatever hardware decoding is now included in XBMC is for Samsung chips or anybody elses SoC but not Rockchip.
Ya screw it. Tried delving into it more and ran into a bunch of crap about "libstagefright" and XML files and nobody interested in fully explaining it and comments to the effect that even if you get it working properly 1080p files will still play like crap. So XBMC is still a barely functioning app on these RK3188 devices. I'm done wasting time on it.

If you search for 'XBMC' and 'advancedsettings.xml' even in these forums, you'll see lots of examples how to enable hw decoding of HD videos.
When you watch a video in XBMC, try pressing 'o' on the keyboard. The overlay shows, among other things, the CPU usage for each core. If the percentages stay at zero, the video is being decoded by h/w.

open up the left requester moving your mouse to the left screen edge, clic on "level: basic" till it show "level:advanced" or "level:expert"
select playback, you'll see two choices: allow hardware acceleration (libstagefright) and alow hardware acceleration (mediacodec) enable libstagefright, disable mediacodec.

Certain ones are here all the time and remember stuff, but for those who only come here on occasion or are coming here for the first time for problem solving, if you don't already know, let me tell ya that finding these solutions when they're buried somewhere in an old thread that may be 20 or 50 pages long, requires many hours of digging and the search tool spits up so many useless/marginally relevant posts that I dare say it does more harm than good. The other issue is that most people have a faulty memory and what they remember as being here or there is actually, for example, in a whole 'nother forum pertaining to an entirely different device.
Additionally it seems to me that accessing these settings in XBMC is entirely non-intuitive and practically equivalent to discovering Easter Eggs. What's that all about? Anybody who creates software like that hopefully caught a good egging tonight.
UPDATE:
OK, I tried this solution: System\Settings\Video\Playback & unchecked "Allow Hardware Accleration (MediaCodec)" "Allow Hardware Acceleration (libstagefright) was already checked by default, so I just unchecked the "(MediaCodec)" and playback of 1080p video seems pretty good. I've a 1080p Ironman ComicCon file that I use for testing (this file seems no longer available on the internet). This file typically causes problems but only a slight stutter here and there and the Audio stays in Sync with the video. Watchable by my standards.
Thanks for the helpHopefully this will be easily found by other T428 users as well.

Gamepad to Virtual Touchscreen PLAY GAMES!
Forget that Tincore Keymapper crap. I finally found something that works and doesn't require that have a touchscreen to set it up. It's in the PlayStore and it's called GKM Touch. When you start the app, you need first to go into the settings and uncheck "Use Mouse Input" otherwise you'll lose control of you mouse pointer and have to reboot using Cntl-Alt-Del or something (that was my answer).
So GKM Touch actually generates virtual touchscreen touches and you can move the virtual buttons around by using the VolumeUp Hotkey. Buttons can alsoe be resized. Works perfect with my knock-off Xbox-360 controller. This app is Super Easy to figure out how to use, but I'm not sure that it will provide the fine adjustment that I may be looking for later.
I'll have to come back after I've played around with this more, but it looks like FINALLY somebody cooked up a complete app that does what we've been waiting years for.

A full Tutorial on 'How To Make XBMC work on your T428 & MK908' should be made in it's own thread and be made sticky. Why sticky? Because, obviously it's one of the primary 1/2 dozen things that everybody wants to run on their Android TV stick.
three weeks ago there was no mediacodec, two months ago you needed completely different instruction for forcing libstagefright, three months ago the menus were differents and so on.
till they will release a stable version any stickied instruction will be outdated in a matter of days.
