MK908II: No hdmi handshake with Philips tv

Hello all from a new member!

I got my MK908II couple of days ago, great, but having a bit of a problem.
My Philips (42PFL7682D/12) doesn't shake hands with the stick. It gets
the connection, but nags: "Video not supported". Still, I know that it supports
all the resolutions up to 1080p, I can switch between different resos with my
Finnsat cable-box. The tv doesn't have any way to change resolution in itself.
I've done some research, and it seems, that Philips tv's are notorious with hdmi
    handshake problems.

I have a all new brand-cables and a quality power for the stick, so I think the
stick should be fine, even better than out of the box. I've even bought a good quality mini-hdmi
to hdmi adapter, so I've tested with a known to work hdmi-cable.
I've tried all possible power cycles, no luck. I've even tried to "force" the tv to different resos
and hotswapping the cable to the stick. Still:"Video not supported".

I don't have access to any other hdmi tv or monitor, so I can't test if I could solve the problem
by simply changing the resolution in the stick's settings. I don't know what is the default
reso out of the box. Is the stock rom 1080 kernel? Would flashing to Finless rom 1.4a with
a 720 kernel have any effect on the default resolution?

Sorry for the long rant, but I'm sure there's a solution, I just haven't found it yet! and

I'm thankful for any help and suggestions,
    best regards
    -W

I suspect this might be a 50Hz vs 60Hz issue, as discussed here:

There is an option within Settings / Screen / HDMI Interface to adjust HDMI mode, and all of mine offer 50Hz and 60Hz versions. Only real option is to take the stick to friendor family place to (a) make sure it's OK on a non-Philips TV - faulty if it still fails there? (b) set to the frequency that your TV likes (probably 60Hz from that article). Hope you get it going - these sticks are cool!

PS - funny that so far this is a "Finland" thread

        Moi Molle ja thänks!

I've just flashed the Finless 1.4a with 720, seems that everything went OK, but
        still: "Video not supported"...

Well, the stick makes a nice and geeky paperweight, can't never have enough of those!
I just might have to order one these:http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...to-VGA-Adapter , just to see if the stick works and maybe do some hacking....

          Thanks plinkykev!

All my family are still OldSkool, CRT only and I have no friends!
But yeah, I'll try to find someone with a modern, WORKING tv....
          Philips

P.S. I will post, as soon I try something new. I don't like when people get an answer or a solution, and never report back. Shame on you!

          peace

            Perhaps

Some Roms have a option in setting 'disable drm check' (somthing like that)

Any realistic fix on that ?

I too am trying to use MK908II on both Philips TV models:

                42PFL9732D/10

                42PFL9803H/10

in vain. Seems as if the Philips hardware is not compatible to the chipset MK908II is using thus unable to exchange HDMI HDCP keys

This may be a far reach but see if you can locate an old HDMI v1.1 compliant extension cable and try with that.

nice idea, i will try that as well. Finding such a cable may be harder in practice though ...

tried 2 x different HDMI switches, looking around for an HDMI splitter now ( 1 input, 2 outputs ) that has been tested in a similar scenario.

What puzzles me the most is that this is not occasional as in other HDMI handshake cases: i have never received any signal on any of the two above TV sets. Tried changing resolution to 720p, 1080p on 50/60 Hz, no difference.

In less than 24 hours i also changed firmware to :

                    * Finless 1.4a
                    * HFW by lewy20041 - v2.0.3

                    no difference.

Each on of the above TVs were high end models on their time and i have never experienced any HDMI issues so far using any of the following: PS3, 2 x DVD players, Media Center PC ( 2 different Graphics adapters ), at least 3 different laptops, HD TV Satellite Box, HD SetTop Box ( Tilgin / Pirelli both for OTE TV in Greece ), HD Camera via Mini HDMI converter, Blackberry Z10 HDMI output ...

all of the above worked great and no HDMI issues with those... yet the only gadget i really needed to work properly with 42PFL9732D/10 is failing me.

On a Samsung 27" TV / monitor it worked great out of the box.

Today i received a Jesurun CS968 Android Media Player with almost identical hardware from here:

and i will soon put to test as well, although similarities in hardware may again be the cause of similar behavior

                      Hi Nick!

I've just ordered a hdmi to vga converter just to see if my stick works at all + to test, if the
resolution changes make any difference. I don't have high hopes, after reading about your case, though.
Let us know if you find a splitter that works, I don't have any more budget for this stick atm.

Good luck and thank you for posting here!

Tested CS-968 yesterday and it worked flawlessly on both Philips TVs out of the box

On the older 42PFL9732D/10 it even synced to 1920*1080, 60Hz

No worries, CS-968 is a different case altogether, running 2 days now on GBIT LAN with hardly any noticeable lag even on some 15+GB MKV files.
