I've tried 1080p 40mbit for 12 hours non stop... no problem, no heat, only 16% cpu usage..

Thanks for the feedback concerning heat and 1080p. For my application, the unit will be running 24/7 but mainly showing pictures, html5 animation and the occasional short video clip. I'm glad heat will not be an issue. If it becomes one, I can always add ventilation to the top lid.
It's interesting about the 720p & 1080p. My MK808 from Geekbuying with the stock rom has an option in the setting menu to change screen resolutions, but after changing to 1080p then using the web browser and going to a site called "What's my screen resolution" it still shows 1280 x 720 http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/
I guess the v2.0.4 by lewy20041 will allow the K-R42 to run in true 1080p? I know I still have a lot of reading to do.
Does the v2.0.4 by lewy20041 allow you to change the screen mode to portrait? I read in other threads that one of the custom roms has that feature unlocked, but you need to configure it with a utility.
Hopefully my K-R42 will be here before the weekend.

I have found that many roms report screen size/rotation differently to the browser.

My K-R42 arrived!!! The case work is more beautiful and sexy than I had expected. It just feels like a high quality product.
The power button works just as Walter described (factory rom). If I power the player up with the button held down, the unit powers right up. I really do not see a need to press the button to make the screen go to sleep so I will probably do the rubber foot under the switch idea to keep the button pressed down.
Temperature wise, what Water and no_spam_for_me said was true. The unit does not get very hot at all. I had a video running for several hours and the unit got barely warm. It actually got warmer when I ran the An TuTu benchmark & stability test. Score = over 18000!
Thanks again for all of the support. I will read the treads concerning custom roms. Having true 1080p for HTML5 and the ability to rotate the screen to portrait mode would be worth it. I will not be using the K-R42 for XBMC. I only need it for playing a slide show of pictures and short video clips, plus HTML5 website stuff. I am leaning towards the v2.0.4 by lewy20041, but will know better after I do some more reading.
If there are any questions about this new K-R42 shipped from Geekbuying, please let me know. I can take it apart and take pictures of the board, or tell you the rom version etc...
