OK guess what! The video overlay thing is working differently than I have seen before! It now DOES WORK with the kernel.

It turns out this maybe a 1080P kernel after all.

I stumbled across this flashing my new ROM and low and behold, it is reporting now 1080P with Antutu IF build.prop is editied... I seriously have to look at what is going on with this new rockchip directive. It is obvious now that the Tronsmart products DID NOT implement this correctly and now Minix has!

I have work to do here to understand what this is doing now.

PLEASE stay tuned.... this might be big news.... Then again it might be a mistake I have made.... But for sure this is working differently than I have seen before.

Confirmed! Kernel is a 1080P kernel!

The kernel is a 1080P kernel! The video overlay directive in build.prop is doing some magic this time I have never seen before. However if this really DOES DETECT 1080P video and switches properly? I do not know. There is a ton to TEST here to see.

I will just tell you this.

If you set in build.prop
video.use.overlay=0
and
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
You get the same damn result! Larger icons on a 1080P kernel. Thus the same as
video.use.overlay=1
and
ro.sf.lcd_density=160

What I do not know is what the difference is? Does it "really" self detect 1080P videos and switch?

YOU FOLKS NEED TO TEST THIS DIFFERENCE! I cannot test everything and especially since I do not have the TV or equipment needed to really ring this out.

But if this really does do what Minix says it does... HOLY CRAP! No more custom kernels and better performance using 720P kernels.

FYI with this kernel and stock build.prop, I get an Antutu of 18000 which I have not seen with a 1080P kernel that is not overclocked!

its not exactly a new thing, my asus tablet do the same when connected to hdmi port, when displaying the "desktop" it will mirror the internal screen, displaying its standard 720p interface but when playing 1080p video will switch to true 1080p full screen (internal screen will turn off), it works only with some players.
other devices do the same - this was a missing feature for rockchip devices more than something new they created.

Wow, that is amazing. Well done Rockchip and Minix I take it back when I said they couldn't get smooth playback on the X7.

I have been holding off until it was fixed to buy one but if they got the major bugs out im in!

Nope, everything plugged in hard drive etc and not had one shut down (so far).

I can't test this rom yet, on moday or Tuesday my X7 will arrive, but can't you root it using adb from pc? I read that there is a new security level, but you can got roor access from adb. So you must got adb push the su bin and set the correct permissions.
