    Pipo U8 RileyROM 1.5

This ROM is based on a Pipo OTA firmware update dated 10/12/13. The file name notes that h265 support is added.

The U8 is unique in the fact that it defaults to a portrait screen as opposed to landscape, like most of the Pipo models. There have been reports of problems with the touch screen. For that reason, I left all of the screens which appear during the boot process as stock.

I've updated my process of making RileyROM's which you won't generally notice. The ROM kit has changed a little.
Many thanks to my mentor, 900Supersport, for providing me his updated kitchen to test for him. I added some of my own tweaks, and we've shared ideas back and forth to provide a dream kitchen for making ROM's.

The main difference from a RileyROM standpoint is how CWM is implemented. Just flash the ROM using the stock recovery.img (default). On first boot, stock recovery will automatically format everything (which I've failed to get CWM to do). During the first boot and for a few minutes afterward, the system will replace the stock recovery with the generic version of CWM embedded within the system.img. Every boot to recovery thereafter will go into a working CWM Recovery. So after first boot, open the app drawer and watch the apps populate. Once all of the apps are done installing you are safe to reboot.

Also, if you insert a micro sd card into the slot, the system will autoinstall any apk file you have on the external sd card in a folder named autoinstall (. There are some limitations to this, however. This isn't a way to restore a backup, but more of a way to access any utility apps you need before you restore your backup. So no key apps to unlock other apps will work this way (on first boot only). I had a little trouble with my Titanium Backup installation doing it this way...so just beware. Experiment as you will and note what works or doesn't work for you. Another warning or suggestion...file names must have no spaces in them. So just rename your apk files to remove the spaces.

An easy way to extract apk files from your current installation is to use an app called Android Assistant, which has a utility to backup your apk files to sd card. Then just copy them over to your external sd autoinstall folder and remove the spaces from the file names.

Otherwise, this ROM carries the usual RileyROM features:

    Full Root with SuperSU
Full Debloat (no extra launchers or apps are kept)
    Google Play Store fixes
English as default language, but all Android languages are supported
Busybox commands added for init.d support
    Ext4 File system
2, 4, 6 or 8gb user app space (the default parameter is 4gb)
    Multi-user support
KO files added for VPN support
    Boot animation by Tattan65
    Flash Tool by Finless
    Reboot app by Petrus
First Time User's Guide by Pr0xZen

    Download

I would love to be able to order a U8 to test with. Perhaps that way I could add more features...so if you want further U8 support...please donate!!!!!!

    Works fine but...

So I've been testing this rom and seems to work great! Streaming Videos, playing games no problem and of course touchscreen working perfectly as older version made some problems!
But I'd would love to see it with a gameloft fix meaning showing it as a GT-I9300 if possible!
    thx and greez

        doesn't work...

        @saladspices

        thanks for the link!
App is actually exactly what I was looking for but it somehow doesn't work.
Spoofing a S3 works but play store still shows same compability...
Anyway, I think the gameloft fix was integrated in v.1.4 so would be great if v1.5 would have it to!

        @rrileypm

By the way, how far away are you from getting a U8?
I'm sure some other U8 users would love to sponsor you too so we can see more U8 roms in the future!

            Working Device Spoof (gameloft fix)

So I made it work by editing the build.prop! Now Play Store shows GT-I9300 compatible games!
I've reset the device in settings meaning deleted account on device and rebooted, so I don't know if it works without reset!

            Here's a download link for the build.prop:
The page you were looking for could not be found. You may have typed the address incorrectly or you may have used an outdated link.

Just use a root explorer and overwrite old build.prop!

            worked for me!

For a while, I was making those changes in build.prop, but got complaints that their tablets didn't show Pipo in the settings. It's a pretty easy edit, though.

                Very nice Rom.

A few comments as a first time user for your Roms

Guide doesnt include the pics it says (or didnt for me in my Adobe) but process was easy to follow
Full Debloat (no extra launchers or apps are kept) - RKMultiPlayer, Reboot, APKInstaller?
Noticeably less lag than my default CycloneVoyager2 Rom which was sluggish for some reason - very good to see!

I forgot to do the parameter change so will probably need to reflash shortly as I fill her up with Apps, although this is happy to move Apps to SD (really to fake SD in Nand).

I am curious though with a fake SD card (in Nand) what is the real SD used for? I got a 32Gb card as I assumed I would need it...

I use the external sd to store pictures, videos and Titanium backups.

Well, about the only thing I know to do is order a U8 to test...but I'm still low on donations...

So if you U8 users could pitch in a little each, maybe I can get one. Then, I'll have a device to troubleshoot the CWM.

                        Hey Riley/leolas,

I hope you'll get enough money for buying an U8. For now, I would be willing to spend some time trying to port cwm for the u8 if one of you guys would be so nice to push me in the right direction.

I tried unpacking the generic CWM recovery.img with the standard scripts available (unmkboot, split_boot) but as it appears, this recovery.img has some special filesystem (No android magic error).
It works fine for the stock recovery, however.

So maybe you have some ultra-helpful hint for me on how to do it :-)

                          Problems with Antutu

                          Hi Randy,
So I've been using my U8 a lot the last days and your rom performs very good but I've ran into some problems with antutu!
90% of the time it crashes to desktop at 27% (cpu float) while there's still an icon in the taskbar saying, please wait testing... but nothing happens!
Those times I was able to run, i got between 19 and 21k! Nice!
                          greez

I'd like to add: Skype works! At least for me, it didn't with the 1.4.
