The U8 is unique in the fact that it defaults to a portrait screen as opposed to landscape, like most of the Pipo models. There have been reports of problems with the touch screen. For that reason, I left all of the screens which appear during the boot process as stock.
I've updated my process of making RileyROM's which you won't generally notice. The ROM kit has changed a little. Many thanks to my mentor, 900Supersport, for providing me his updated kitchen to test for him. I added some of my own tweaks, and we've shared ideas back and forth to provide a dream kitchen for making ROM's.
The main difference from a RileyROM standpoint is how CWM is implemented. Just flash the ROM using the stock recovery.img (default). On first boot, stock recovery will automatically format everything (which I've failed to get CWM to do). During the first boot and for a few minutes afterward, the system will replace the stock recovery with the generic version of CWM embedded within the system.img. Every boot to recovery thereafter will go into a working CWM Recovery. So after first boot, open the app drawer and watch the apps populate. Once all of the apps are done installing you are safe to reboot.
Also, if you insert a micro sd card into the slot, the system will autoinstall any apk file you have on the external sd card in a folder named autoinstall (. There are some limitations to this, however. This isn't a way to restore a backup, but more of a way to access any utility apps you need before you restore your backup. So no key apps to unlock other apps will work this way (on first boot only). I had a little trouble with my Titanium Backup installation doing it this way...so just beware. Experiment as you will and note what works or doesn't work for you. Another warning or suggestion...file names must have no spaces in them. So just rename your apk files to remove the spaces.
An easy way to extract apk files from your current installation is to use an app called Android Assistant, which has a utility to backup your apk files to sd card. Then just copy them over to your external sd autoinstall folder and remove the spaces from the file names.
